Washed Out!

Newbie but Goodie
It's been a while since I posted (last posted when I just bought a bike from a fellow BARFer)

But posting here is giving me some peace of what happend Firday (afternoon commute)

I was lane 'sharing' between 3 and 4 (hwy 880N) when I started to close the distance between me an a rider in front of me. (BAD MOVE)

For some reason, the thought of something bad happening did not even cross my mind (mistake #1)

His bike was a little wider than mine so he was sharing a bit more cautiously. He came to a sudden STOP, and to my reaction I hit the front brake - and not even hitting the back (mistake #2)

I laid it down and slid under a car! GOD has protected me!
I was able to pick up the bike and was able to push it off to the side. The other rider in front of me stayed with me for Moral support. Thanks Man. The car and its driver, took off.

No broken bones, no gashes, no blood. Just a bruised hip, shoulder, and ego.

question: continue to ride, or not?
to lose: wife, 3 kids
to gain: more confidence

It depends. If you're going to continue riding like that, I'd say it's best for all concerned if you quit now.

If you think you can learn from it, and keep yourself out of these situations, keep riding.

You got lucky, most educations on a bike come with a lot more time spent laying on the couch, thinking about how uncomfortable those damn casts are. Whether you use the information passed on to you is entirely up to you.

If you have not figured out how to use the brakes before hpping on an R6 and you have wife and kid(s) then best hang it up.

what'd you tell the horse when he bucked you off?!

... I can never remember how that saying goes...

Circle Jerk in the Sink.
lane sharing is one of the more complicated tasks a rider can take on... Plus side, the r6 has great brakes but in the hands of someone who isnt capable, distracted, or over their head...it behooves you to probably limit your riding to less risky endeavors

I had a simular thing happen to me. I also got off really lucky. For me I always leave a gap in front of me. A suv just in front of me from the car pool lane then locked up its break so it would hit the car in front of it. I grabed a hand full of break. (big mistake) I ended up doing a stopie. By the time I came to my sense and started laying off the front break the rear tire was stright up. The bike just feel over. I walked away with just a bad sprain in my wrist. Now i ride as if every one is going to cut me off and ive spent some good time practicing my breaking.
