PSA: Verizon will soon begin spying on your web habits, here’s how to opt out

If you're a Verizon wireless customer, your online identity is about to take another privacy hit. The company just revealed that its new service agreement will include language that allows the monitoring of your web habits, including websites you visit and even the location data of when and where you use your wireless browser.

The company says the data will be used solely for business and marketing purposes, and to present you with more relevant advertisements while you're surfing on the go. The data that is obtained may also be shared with third-party companies under the guise of making mobile ads better suited to your interests.

We don't even have web capability with our phones and I still turned it off just in case I ever do and forget about this by then.

at least they made it easy. no hoops to jump through.

the data collection stuff is getting ridiculous. now grocery stores are selling that info about your savings card purchases to insurance companies. good luck getting life coverage when they deem you high risk by your eating habits.

I did get email from Verizon about the policy change and immediately opted out. Easy to see though, how most people will figure it's spam and miss it.

Iphones do this, and you can't turn it off. When this became known a few months ago, my wife didn't want to use her phone anymore. She's now rockin' the Samsung Galaxy S II, and the iphone is getting me $200 after selling it.
