Vax rollout thread

I know I'm not supposed to laugh, but after yesterday's fiasco with the various phone lines and websites regarding vax appointments, I'm in a mirthy mood.

Telephones. Yeah. Preferred method of communication for business and personal transactions of the 20th century. Oh wait, it's the 21st century.

Getting stories left and right about various waits and such. One friend waited a hour for Kaiser in SF. They not only couldn't find her membership (she's had it for years) but they told her they darn ran out of vax for SF. Gave her a new number to try on Monday (you know, "our menu has changed so please....).

It's almost like we didn't have 9 months to think about the day a vaccine was available, and about a month and a half since we knew they were coming for sure.

MS. BA's 92 year old uncle's wife sat on the phone for several hours. Scored an appointment too. In MID FEBRUARY. Nice.

California is 43rd in vaxxing rates thus far. The Tech State. The smart state.

My CEO tried to get the county to agree to house vax sites for the retirement community where I work. They weren't interested for...reasons. Then, after yesterday, they are suddenly interested and tried to set it up in 10 days. No problem to vax 9,000 people in one day, right? After all, they have two sites and people are only supposed to hang around for 15 minutes after to have their reaction or not. Math. It's frickin hilarious.

Putting on KS so please don't mention certain figures by name or inference.

Bet you a quarter this gets political....

I put it on KS because I wanted your everyman to join in the mirth, tell their respective stories, etc etc etc etc .

But if it gets heavy, here is advance request to any mod to move it. I do not intend it to go that direction.

Elected or not, what I lament, ruefully, is the lack of vision to make this happen. I work in the media. We can help. We can publish sites, we can announce letters of the alphabet served on certain days, all these ways that don't involve making a human sit by a phone at either end. It just doesn't make sense to me.

Amidst all the dust yesterday, our county put out the call for all kinds of medical techs to serve to help administer the shots. How timely.

Here's info and how YOU can get a shot before others in order to serve:
Contra Costa Health Services is seeking volunteer vaccinators and support and logistical staff to help speed up the distribution of the COVID-19 as cases continue to soar in the county.
.
Contra Costa Health Services said in an email that vaccine volunteers are being asked to be available 24 hours a week, including weekends, and be able to work anywhere in the county, including Concord, San Ramon, Antioch and Richmond. They must have reliable transportation.
Volunteer vaccinators must have a current license as a registered nurse (RN), licensed vocational nurse (LVN), emergency medical technician (EMT), doctor of dental surgery (DDS), doctor of pharmacy (PharmD) or medical doctor (MD). CCHS wants to hear from “anyone who believes they have these qualifications.”
Volunteer candidates must submit to a background check and a tuberculosis (TB) test through the county and complete online training.
.
Anyone interested in volunteering to serve as a vaccinator, contact tracer or member of the testing/vaccine support staff should send an email with a resume and/or detailed information about themselves to COVID19Volunteers@cchealth.org.

Recedite, plebes!
Bay Arean, others...

I received this notice yesterday regarding COVID-19 vaccinations for individuals that have an intellectual or developmental disability and family/health care providers can now be included in Phase 1A.

I just did a "copy / paste" from the PDF file to post it here. If anyone would like a copy of the PDF file just let me know.

STATE OF CALIFORNIA--HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES AGENCY
GAVIN NEWSOM, Governor

DEPARTMENT OF DEVELOPMENTAL SERVICES
1600 NINTH STREET, Room 240, MS 2-13 SACRAMENTO, CA 95814
TTY (916) 654-2054 (For the Hearing Impaired) (916) 654-1897

January 13, 2021

To Whom It May Concern:
California has a large population of people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. Recent COVID-19 studies have identified several groups within this population as being at high risk of COVID-19 complications and related fatalities. The purpose of this letter is to clarify that family members of certain people are “health care workers” pursuant to the State of California’s Vaccination Plan (https://covid19.ca.gov/vaccines/#When-can-I- get-vaccinated), and thus are prioritized for COVID-19 vaccination within Phase 1A.

These family members include those who care for people with any of the following conditions. This list is not necessarily exhaustive:
• Cerebral palsy
• Down Syndrome
• Epilepsy
• Specialized health care needs, including dependence upon ventilators, oxygen, and other technology.

The eligibility of these family members can be ascertained by documentation from their California regional center, verifying the qualifying condition of the member of their household who has an intellectual or developmental disability.

A list of regional centers is available here: https://www.dds.ca.gov/rc/listings/. Alternatively, a family member may choose to present medical documentation of the qualifying condition of the member of their household who has an intellectual or developmental disability.

We hope this letter clarifies the eligibility of certain family members for the COVID-19 vaccine pursuant to Phase 1A of the State’s Plan, and thereby assists in protecting the health of Californians most at risk from COVID-19 impacts.

Sincerely,
NANCY BARGMANN Director

Honestly, when I first saw the title, this did cross my mind.

Too much time on retro computing boards recently...
