Drum brakes.....Distributors??? WTF is this, the stone age???:rofl
Yes! Lol. The current national fleet of about 180,000 mail trucks were built between 1985 and 1994! They're actually Chevy S10's with the old "iron duke" 4 banger.
(A few of them, built in 2000, are Ford Explorer based)
However, the request for a new fleet truck is already out. The expectation is that within the next 5 years a new truck will be rolled out. Keep in mind, we also service 2ton box vans, 7 and 11 ton big rigs, staff cars, and even service the postal inspector fleet. All totaled, the USPS is actually the largest civilian vehicle fleet in the world.
is the drug screen pretest or continuously randomly during employment?
is this going to be actually working for the federal government usps or some spinoff side company.
i would work for the goddamn usps fixing mailman van thingamajigs, prolly need like 6 months of understanding every common repeating problem and service them like madman.
is there a pension, and is retirement offered @ 55?
Pre test drug and background checks.
Real federal USPS position, No spinoffs in sight.
The current pension plan is a bit different than the days of old... But, yes you end up with a retirement fund that is designed to match your highest base salary reached. I'd have to pull out my documents to explain it without making mistakes though.
Your retirement option time is an age + years of service equation, that also includes any time spent in the military.
If you're a decent mechanic it takes about a week to figure these things out! Haha! The pattern failures are extremely well known at this point, and any of us could tell you anything you hadn't figured out.
Come join the fun! It sure beats working your butt off for finicky nit picky customers.
