In the past, we had maybe three lead manufacturers...If there are three people bidding for the pool of riders, it’s different to if there are six people bidding. So I think it’s up to us collectively somehow – and it’s not easy, because we’re all competitive – keep the rider market under some control and some sense.

Jarvis a few years from now: "No collusion. There's been no collusion."

:rofl Love it!
In one interview the Orange Moron said "No collusion" 8 different times!
His fans must be so proud they voted for him! :laughing

regards rider salaries:
IIRC, both the riders and team owners have Unions. (or industry support groups) Please correct me if I'm off on this.

Also, I'm pretty sure the manufactures get together behind the scenes as well.

I'm amazed Suzuki has the dough to go MotoGP racing. The Car sales side in Asia must really be helping. (they are Number one in car sales in certain countries)

Yamaha are better off but not exactly FLUSH like both Honda and Ducati.
I'm surprised KHI are not in MotoGP. I guess the industrial side is not willing to fund such an effort ... figuring WSB is quite enough. Maybe correct! ?

Regards salary caps, yes, certainly possible but most of that happens in Stick and Ball sports ... not real sport where you risk your life every time you go out. :wtf (think Ernest Hemingway's quote)

Also, there will always be "secret" sweet heart deals made with top riders behind the scenes. :ride

Claudio Domenicali of Ducati made a similar statement just days after Jarvis. Seems to back up DonJigweed's concerns about anti-trust issues. Are the EU anti-trust laws distinctly different than in the U.S.? Congress has granted anti-trust exemptions for some major league sports in the U.S. and others seem to get a pass. I'm guessing big money sports leagues in Europe have the same influence over legislatures.

Yeah. Sports entertainment abides by different rules. Consider the NCAA, they get special rules for the “benefit of the fans.

Feinstein sent me an email about how she was doing everything to protect the college athlete after the MSU scandal, and I wrote her back saying she could start by removing the slave status of college athletes and start paying them for their services. :thumbdown

^^ Disagree

Students are not professional athletes. They are students first; athletes second. Finish your education, then get paid to play a game.

Should top tier high school athletes also get paid? De La Salle football? Bellarmine water polo? Mater Dei basketball?

I imagine the market just works itself out.
From what I understand Ducati has thrown money at riders like Jorge and Valentino without much return.
I don't think Yamaha gave Vale nearly what he got at Ducati.
And I'm going to take a guess Jorge isn't going to get as much either from any factory.
