Tragic Limo crash in NY

doc4216

Coastie who high fives
"Twenty people were dead and a picturesque, upstate New York community was in shock and mourning Sunday after a "horrific" crash of a limousine van near an intersection of rural, winding roads."

"The Albany Times Union said the limo speeded down a hill and crashed into bystanders outside the store. The ensuing 911 calls drew a phalanx of first responders, including several ambulances, three fire companies and two helicopters, the Times Union said. Some of the injured were flown to Albany Medical Center Hospital."

What an awful accident. 20 families gravely affected. My heart goes out to those involved. :rose

DUI?

What is the point of a limo. Just get to the party by whatever means. I’ve only been in one once, wasn’t that big a deal.

It happened here (Google street view link). From photos at the Albany Times Union, it looks like the limo blew the stop sign and went straight on into the creek next to the Apple Barrel. A pickup was apparently hit but no one was injured. Two other people, possibly in the parking lot, were killed along with 18 in the limo.

Article from the Albany Times Union. Below is a sidebar from the same article.

I wouldn't trust a piece of shit like that to be either properly designed or properly constructed for the much greater load than Ford ever envisioned. Didn't something similar catch fire on the San Mateo Bridge a few years ago and kill all the occupants?

Way too much mass for the brakes that they would have on that. Apparently it was a downhill stretch leading to that stop sign, the limo driver probably didn't know that road and was probably over the speed limit in a vehicle incapable of stopping in a reasonable distance.

Tragic ending for a group of people just trying to enjoy a weekend day. Four sisters were in the limo, I can't imagine what they're family is going through!

Just such sad news. A bunch of young people, family members (4 sisters! JEEZUS), young couples, etc.

Off topic a bit, but recently, my fiance and I were walking through a crosswalk, with the walk sign still about 15 seconds remaining, and a car going full speed (or above speed limit) just barrels through the crosswalk. We had just hit the median section, there was a car in the first lane, so fortunately we looked and saw him coming fast in the second lane. He didn't even slow one bit. It would have been instant death for us. Anyway, we thought about being engaged, now buying our first house...anyway, really feel for these families.

Always thought those super-stretch limos were tacky and sketchy. Pretty friggin' brutal and tragic. Yeesh. :(

I think that the police need to set up a formal submittal portal for people to use their smart phones for video these assholes as they're coming, catch license plate and face (I know, perhaps asking a lot, but if people are ready with their phones) and prosecute them. I think that people would be more proactive to get them if they thought the police would do something about it.

Maybe so, despite some Big Brother concerns. In our case, unless we happened to be recording anyway, we wouldn't have had time to get any license/facial information. Do agree though generally; there should be consequences for truly dangerous driving.
