How cool is this thing?

Sure, it’s $23K, but I would definitely consider it if I could get my hands on one.

“The Track T800CDI is a new adventure-style motorcycle from Dutch manufacturer Evaproducts using a turbo-charged, 800cc triple-cylinder from a Smart car, mated with a CVT transmission and shaft drive to keep the engine at peak torque.”

“The engine gives a claimed 45 hp and 78 lb-ft of torque, but more significantly Evaproducts claims the T800CDI has fuel consumption up to 140 mpg for general riding…The reason for the bike’s low power output is Evaproduct’s desire to make it last– an engine life of 250,000 miles is claimed – and give excellent fuel consumption.”

Hopefully it's better designed than the smart car, which shifts like a 1930s washing machine changing from spin to wringer mode.

Ernie, your statement about the Smart car shifting is simply not true. The washing machine is MUCH smoother.

At first I wasn't too sure, but after reading the article and really analyzing this machine (as much as you can from a magazine) I have to agree. It looks like the perfect 2-wheeled off-road cross country vehicle.

I could see loading this thing up and doing a nice, leisurely RTW. It would last longer than I could.

EDIT: Just saw this was from an '09 article. Now I'm looking for a long term review. I'd like to see it off-road.

The range, the gas mileage, the longevity of the engine, the dualsport capability and the fact that diesel is usually easier to find in 3rd world countries would make this the right choice for a world traveler. The Horizons Unlimited types

Sounds like the R/75 toaster tank my buddy used to let me ride. Every time i shifted, it was like throwing a whole handful of keys into a stainless steel dog food bowl.

Yeah you could stink up places all over the globe (I hate diesels).

Don't like diesels either, but with this one you could complete your India tour at a much lower cost - diesel is subsidized in India because it is the transport industry's fuel of choice.

$23,000 for a 45-horsepower, 515-pound motorcycle. Sounds awesome!

And remember: Clattering combustion chambers save lives!

All the weight and half the horsepower of comparable ADV bikes. CVT lacks any character whatsoever. So..... some of the taste and twice as filling?

Sure, for the riding most people do, it makes no sense. But if you want to get to some truly remote places on a motorcycle, this might be the only viable choice. A 6 gallon tank and 140 mpg means an 840 mile tank range. And you can extend that even further with auxiliary tanks. That's what's interesting about this bike

Whoa, OK, I didn't see the range on the first read. That's amazing. But the bike seems like it would suck for actually going to and through such places. How are you supposed to get the front wheel up? Bike weighs half a ton and doesn't have a clutch. You'll end up like that idiot on YoutTube who couldn't get his GS over a 6-inch log.

Yea, Ihad the chance to meet quite a few world travelers on motorcycles. Both in europe and in US.
Most of them are travelers first and foremost and the motorcycle is just a tool they use for the job. Few are motorcyclists the way we are where that is the main purpose of the experience.
An R80Gs with a 14gal gastank and 120lbs of gear on the back seat won't be any sportier or handle any better than this diesel tractor yet it has been the right bike for many adventurers.
