Track helmet

I finally picked up a CBR1000RR, mostly for track use.

My current helmet is a Shoei GT AIR, which is fine for me on a naked/standard bike.

However I find that on the sportier CBR, my forward vision is hindered by the top of the visor opening being quite low at my forehead, making it hard for me to see forwards and upwards (think sitting at traffic lights while holding the 'bars). I have to lift up my head and look upwards in a neck-straining fashion. A brief attempt at a full-on racing crouch leaves me basically blind to what is in front of me.

Are there helmets that are better designed for track vision in a racing crouch? My Google-fu is failing me here.

Or maybe I'm just a little old, fat and stiff, and thus in need of practice at craning my neck for a sports bike? I definitely spend too much time hunched over a keyboard :-/

I got a Shoei X-14 because it has adjustable cheek pads that can tilt the helmet upwards relative to the cheek pad position. I have the same problem with my RF-1200.

If means anything, the GT Air is not Snell rated. Don't some track providers require Snell. Do they ever check?

I find Arai's fit me the best, but if you are able to get to a store that carries the helmets that you are looking at you might go and try each one on and see which one suits your needs the best.

Yes I definitely want to try on some options. A friend reminded me of Road Rider in San Jose. I will start there.

I've found the helmets with integrated visors to be both heavier and less workable at the track for just the reason you mention.

If the Shoei shape works for you, try an RF-1200 or X-14. Ride to a shop and try them on while in the tuck on your bike. Then, if it works, buy it at the shop instead of online. :p
