I dont see any open track days put on by any of the trach day guru's. Whats up with that??? The best track day I have ever attended was at t-hill. It was an open day with only 40 riders. By mid day I was so pooped I couldnt ride any more. Now thats the kind of track time I want!!!

I would like your opinion!!!

How much would you pay so that you dont need to wait for your session??? You can just roll out and ride.

If you put 50 riders on the track at the same time and you spread them out it is still less riders in one group than most race classes run in the AFM.

I am posting a poll! Pipe in with your opinions!!!

Thanks

Joseph

i would assume they dont do open trackdays cuz its way less profit for them. Its really not about your riding time or saftey. Its about how many can we get on trackday and make a profit
I agree open track is the way to go ...

EMA and a handful of private trackdays are still open.

none of them are $300 and none of them i've seen anywhere except thill. then again, haven't really looked

also i can't maximize the tracktime on an open day. i'd rather have groups. 2 group format i like. 3 group is okay. most times i do ride A/B tho so it's kinda like 2 groups...

I did an open trackday and the atmosphere is WAY better, way LESS crashes, better riding, more fun. There aren't 30 squids lined up every 20 minutes all trying to go out there and race each other.

Having said that I wouldn't pay much more for an open trackday, but prefer the format much much more. If you're ultra competitive you might not enjoy them as much, but if you enjoy going on the track when you feel like it, working with friends slower and faster than you, and feeling absolutely no pressure open trackdays are the shit.

BTW JDMBIKES, I got those fairings, nice materials, but did you make the mold out of clay? wavygravy!

Its Just an Idea, so far!!

I am thinking about puting on a track day. Since I had so much fun the last time I did an open day, Im thinking thats what I want to do. I figure in order to break even I will have to charge 300-350.00 and have about 50 riders. Im thinking Sears point (dont like the name change) I dont have the particulars on rent price yet and all the in's and out's. Pipe in and let me know if you will attend and pass it on.

Thanks

good luck getting a day at infineon. im game for sure, but gooooood luck.

basically because its such a well known track. (IRL, Lemans, NASCAR) it gets booked 300 days out of the year by people with MONEY. i.e. people stated above. its hard enough for keigwin to get days there. (i talked to lance for about an hour on this issue). if you can rent a day at infineon for 350.... im all for it, but i wish you the best.

p.s. i would definetly sign up with your day :)

Track rental

I have sent off for information for track rental prices to t-hill and to Sears point (does anyone know how much they rent the track for?). I see from the calender that both tracks still have days that are not booked. I dont believe that this will be to much trouble, I mean if you think about it! All these guys that put on track days, are they that much smarter than we are???? Seems to me like a simple thing to do, right? Rent the track, advertise for riders, collect fees and hope to heck you dont loose your ass!!! LOL! Pass the word around, I am getting quite a few calls from riders that know me that will attend. So far we have 23 interested parties and we have not even put out an add yet! This will be an open track day!!!

Count me in if it can be done for $250 or under at T-hill, I can almost say for sure I'd have 2 more friends as well

With a roster of 50 riders your price for T-hill should be very close to if not less than a standard track day, around $200. Open days are definetly the way to go... Soooo much track time, and you don't have to sit there twittling your thumbs for 40mins. before you get to go out for your next session....

I would be willing to pay up to $320 for an Infineon open day.
As well as i could probly bring a couple more guys with me.

You're planning this for 08' right Joe, when the weather will for sure not be an issue??? I have been bit too many times by bad weather cancellations(no money back) so i just don't sign up for the riskier months anymore....

All in all sounds great Joe, count me in.....

Thats great,

Hey Hollis,

Yep it will be when the weather is good. It will take a little time to sort all this out. I have been wanting to do this for a while. We used to do this with Redstorm racing down at BW and we got the price down to 95.00 but of course there were to many riders and 3 groups. I dont mind paying a little more for an open day. If you get 6 sessions on a normal track day and you do 8 laps (us slow guys) per session thats 48 laps. When I did the T-Hill open day I did 73 laps before 2 pm. I was POOOPED! I could have done at least another 40 if I wasnt so old!!! LOL!
I should all sort itself out. I am going to get all the info from the tracks and post it here well in advance.

Thunderhill is $4550 for 20 riders on a weekday(2007). Included is Electricity and Colleen taking signatures and putting wristbands on at the gate. It'll cost extra if you want use of the clubhouse etc. For each rider past 20, Thunderhill charges another $120($60/rider and $60/bike). Get 40 riders at $200/rider and make $1k for your trouble.
Prices will go up about 3% for 2008.
If you did it, i'd be in. If you do it at Sears I'm Waaaaay in. I could probably wrangle a few others, too.

Is it summer yet?
I think you'd have a line out the door for any infineon day but as stated before, goooood luck.

I'd be all over an open trackday but I'm off the track until middle/end of next summer. :(

Also dont forget about Insurance. As being part owner of a track club right now. ( LetsRideTrackDays.com ) The insurance is very inportant. You can buy it from the track but it wont cover you ass like it will from an insurance provider and it gets very pricey. And dont for get about the ambulance services. You have to have one there and one on stand by, and thats about 900.00 to 1200.00 per unit.
Food for thought, if you have any questions PM me I'll try to answer any ? you have.

Set up time.

One of the things that I have noticed and most racers would agree that there is not enough time in these short sessions to set up and test a bike. With an open track day you can make changes go out and try them come back make more adjustments and do the same. With sessions you have to wait 40 minutes and then if you went the wrong way you have to wait until your next session. I always here riders say my session got cut short because somebody crashed. The open track day would give riders more track time even if there are wrecks.

I would do open track days all spring/summer long. Spent both Sat and Sun at t-hill this weekend...didnt get enough for my $340...IM IN.

Time

Yeah, this is what I am saying about the track days with sessions. If you are out there to improve your lap times and go faster the mutiple sessions track day does not do it. If there is a crash the session is stopped, you might get back out or you might loose that session. This of course can happen with any type of track day. I do believe that the open track day is a better format for those who are trying to improve their lap times and become faster. For instance if you can go out and practice one section of the track at a time, without feeling like you have to do the whole lap all out you will improve that section. You can do this on multiple sections of the track and then string them together for the best lap results. You cant do that with a 20 minute session. I am not going to sit and complain about the trackday promoters, they do a fine job. I would like to see something different and that is why I am propposing an open track event.

I disagree. I use A group to work on my own lap times. I usually pick a section and work on it intensely for 20 minutes and then write down what was working and what wasn't. It also puts the fast guys out on the track at the same time.

I'm not dissing on open track days at all, but saying you can't improve lap times or work on sections is just not true.

As RacinR6 stated there are more than just rent and go approach to starting a trackday. Open trackdays are as common as a bigfoot sighting (you find one here and there). As of an alternative a 2 session trackday should suffice most trackday needs. Open Sessions are still the best but that was then.

If we had as many riders at an open trackday as we do at a structured one, I'd bet it would be a cluster-fuck. The thing that the open trackdays have going for them right now, is that they are far and few between meaning that there is like only 50 people there. Compare that 50-60 to maybe 120 people at a normal trackday. You HAVE to have some seperation with that many people.
