Tis the season..... PSA

Groveland, where's that?
Tis the riding season, and we're all excited about getting back on the roads.

With that being said, and not wanting to be a downer, we all must remember these few things:

1. We are not immortal.
2. Our hobby is dangerous.
3. Cages do not like us.
4. Tourists are out and about and using the same roads we are.

This last couple of days, the State of California, has lost several riders, including a fatal investigation of a motorcyclist in LA right now.

Whereas, all riders must be vigilant when riding, all riders must ride with wisdom and caution.

There is a time and a place for stunting, riding fast, and enjoying our hobby to the fullest.

The LEO community is as dedicated to keeping all riders safe, as we are to enforcing the laws which we hope will protect both rider and cage.

As we all know, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Groups of stunters taking over freeways, posting videos on the internet showing the endangerment of motorists on the highways, and the sudden spike of deaths will draw a lot of LEO attention.

If you're going to ride in groups, know with whom you riding alongside.

Ride safe, and ride long. It's going be a long riding season this year, lets all make it through to the end.

Well said.

Sadly this weekend was like a perfect storm. Holiday weekend, record warm weather and everyone ready to get out and enjoy. I have reached the point:afm199 that I rarely ride on Holiday weekends. Retired and just enjoy riding on weekdays more.

Rolls with it...
Was caging it up NB Empire Grade today (2/16), around 3 pm, before the Bonny Doon fire station and there appeared to be down rider... couldn't tell the bike, possibly a Yamaha FZ-7 or 9, rider being tended to by a few people, then the fire trucks, ambulance, a CHP car, then a CHP moto passed us to get to the scene... anyone know what happened, or if the rider is ok?

Good thoughts Rel. And I'm hoping that maybe someday distracted driving will be treated like the threat that it is..

^^^I don't know why distracted driving is not more heavily penalized, in my book it is as bad a dui.

I agree.... but I don't write the laws. Lobby your lawmakers to increase the penalties for distracted driving.

We'd need some way of proving "distracted" is all rel-just like .08 bac is definitely impaired driving (for many a lower bac will also impair driving) we need some tool that would measure and establish a level of distraction--maybe technology will catch-up with this as well?

Edit: Actually, come to think of it are citations actually given for "distracted driving" rel? I guess the cell phone legislation would be one good example?

Saw two this morning on the BB: First one was a MotoCHP I saw watching some guy in a pick-up texting while moving up the line to the metering lights. Pulled him right over before the incline.

Second was some guy in a Toyota doing the texters signature slow-down, speed-up and lane-drift pattern as we approached the 5th St exit. CHP cruiser was watching this from three cars back and two lanes over next to me.

A little fist-pump and a "Yesss!" Made my day.

Can anyone here (hopefully a LEO) define Vigilant?) What the mind is doing, sensing safe space/available traction to work with (there is a safe way to test this)/sight line distance/hazards, and the ever changing mix, And of course, disciplined to stay focused on the ride, not allowing the mind to wander off onto something else, and the factors in this?

I'm doing it all the time... But I'm at a loss for words, to say what I'm doing.
