I guess I shouldn't be surprised at this, but I am. At least the "standard" returns. I believe "high end" manufacturers taking steps to keep their goods exclusive was revealed a few years back.

It's good to see this coming to light for the public, and some manufacturers handling returns differently. Hopefully that becomes more widespread.

Probably doesn't apply but a few things I just got from ebay were either defective or damaged in shipping. Mostly just a blemish that I could either repair or live with. It seems ebay just converts any claim of this sort to a return, where I'd simply prefer to work something out with the seller. I'm not going through the hassle of shipping Chinese stuff back.

Sales would go down, charity lines would grow.

But it should be expensive to throw stuff out.
