1972 Winter
In '72, I was coming home from SF State to a house in Montclair in the Oakland Hills. It snowed a little as I was crossing the Bay Bridge, and by the time I got to Thornhill Drive near my house, the snow was like 4" deep and slicker than snot.
I got as far as Woodhaven Way and Thornhill where there was NO traction at all on my clunky old R50. So I parked it and walked up the hill.
That canyon is very shady in the Winter, and snow stayed on the ground for days. Burr!
Then the time I got caught in a blizzard riding from Death Valley to Mammoth Lakes... never again.
