This Little Monkey Needs A Home

Hey there

Here's Mowgli. He needs a home. A home that can give him lots of attention and with someone used to being a pet parent to a bossy chatty cat who doesn't take shit from anyone :)

We rescued him from the Martinez shelter when he was at death's door with an untreated thyroid problem

The photo is him on his day of release, at our vet

He is about 13 years old and needs daily thyroid medications which he tolerates well :) We took him to UC Davis to see if he is a good candidate for radioactive iodine thyroid treatment, and although he wasn't ruled out, they need to do many more expensive tests to confirm. We are not doing these tests

This handsome dapper dude can't catch a break though. While at Davis it was discovered he has a heart murmur. 3 on a scale of 6

And he has bradycardia (very low heart rate, 120 bpm) which is HIGHLY unusual for a cat with a thyroid problem

So here he is, bless his cotton socks. Looking for a home that can give him the attention he needs. He's friendly, bossy, chatty. But he has some health issues. There is nothing to be done about the heart murmur, or the heart rate. It is what it is. He could live another 5 years, or die in 5 months. However long he has left he deserves to be in a home that can show him some adventures

Check out his video - going for a walk!!!

Please help me find this dude a home :) Oh, he had all of his teeth cleaned a couple of weeks ago so no issues there

Can't tell if he's in a vet or foster setting at the moment, but might be worth contacting Cat Town Oakland to take him in. I just finished building out all their new cat rooms in their new building. They focus on taking in and finding homes for senior, shy or otherwise at risk cats. These are the types of cats they save and find homes for.

He looks good in the video! My little guy came home with a gut problem that I'm still working on, and the female had ear and eye issues. I can't take anymore in, but I just want to let folks know that pets are like bikes--they need a little love and maintenance to keep them in top form. Nothing is 100% perfect all the time, and I find a joy in staying on top of their health needs and knowing that I'm giving them a quality of life that they might not otherwise have.

He is in foster with John and I. Regarding Cat Town, they won't take him, not that I have asked, I don't need to. They help the cats at risk in the Oakland shelters. Mowgli came from the Martinez shelter in Contra Costa County. And he is in foster so he is safe

Just as an FYI peeps, I know *all* of the rescues out there, trust me. This isn't my first rodeo. So whilst I appreciate the input, pointing me in the direction of rescues is pretty pointless :) This dude needs a home

Thanks for persevering with your babies Heather!!

And yes, this dude needs nothing more than cream applied to his ear twice a day for the thyroid problem. Like you say, a bit of maintenance :)

There are no medications or treatment for the heart problems, they are what they are

And he does look wonderful in the video. He really is a miracle cat. His untreated thyroid problem "should" have killed him with the negative impact normally seen on kidneys and liver, but no damage seen :wow

Wow the pic doesn't do this cat justice. Take a look at the video to see a fully happy and alert cat doing what a cat does.

Yep, you have to watch the video to see just how far he has come. He is a trooper that is for sure!!!

We truly thought he was a fospice case day one :( He proved us all wrong. My guess is that even with his heart condition he will prove us all wrong and live to be 20!!!

I clicked expecting a monkey. I am dissapoint.

For reals someone adopt the cat.

I am dissapoint too :(

Not ONE person interested in this dear (handful of a) cat. Not one :(

Posted here, Facebook, NextDoor, Craigslist and nothing. Zero, zip, zilch nada

:(

He is one of the most interesting cats we have ever fostered, and that is saying something as we have fostered a LOT. This dude is totally unique, not like any other cat we have encountered

And not one.single.person.interested
