It's great to see videos like this!

A few years back I had a long haul trucker block lanes like this for me out in WV. My SV650 rear wheel locked up on the interstate shortly after a drybag came loose... He somehow stayed right with me while I slid (completely locked up) across the entire 3 lane interstate at 75mph all the way to zero. Still unsure how he did this.

He then stopped, hopped out and helped me cut the melted ball of goo out of my wheel/ swingarm.

I ran out of gas Monday on 101 in Petaluma. I had an MSR 1 ltr bottle but it was empty because I gave a friend a top off and never refilled it. I took out the bottle and held it upside down so folks could see that I needed gas. About 2 minutes later, a kid in a clapped out Honda ricer stopped and picked me up. He drove me to the nearest gas station and then drove me back to my bike. He got a tank of gas out of the deal. There are good people out there.

How in the world did you manage to run out of gas on the freeway?

When commuting, I've always topped the tank back up before the low fuel light goes on (or hitting reserve on some bikes). Don't want to get anywhere near having an empty tank.

the fuel gauge hasn't worked in years and I was pushing it. Just a couple of miles to the next station, I bet I can make it. I hate stopping for gas. I don't know why but it's my thing. This was the first time I've run out of gas since I don't remember.

Yeah, I did it once on my 990 Adv. I waited for the low fuel light, which in the past was good for at least 28 more miles. That time it was about five and it was out. I was on my way to the gas station at the time, so only had to push it about 100 feet.

I've always only trusted the trip odometer until I got this latest KTM. It has a "miles to empty" display and the one time I actually ran that to zero it still had nearly a gallon left in the tank - assuming it's the actual size stated in the owner's manual. That would give me nearly another 40 miles before being truly out. I don't intend to let the miles to empty get that low again.

I think the "miles to empty" is more like "miles to low fuel light". Does yours then start counting up "miles after empty"? I'm fairly comfortable with going another 15 miles or so on my KTMs.

Had an "incident" [you know, one second you're up, the next you're not] last year inbound 101 at hospital curve. But not for one Amazing Mystery Rider [who stopped, picked up and moved my rig while I lay sprawled out on the asphalt] and the truck driver who also immediately stopped abd blocked lanes to give AMR coverage, who knows wtf might have happened to me otherwise?

Remain profoundly grateful for the kindness of these strangers whoever they are. :thumbup

The 1090 R does not have a miles after empty like the 990 Adv had.

I was on my supermoto riding the backroads from the city to across the central valley when I saw a Harley just stopped on the on ramp. Just sat there doing nothing as I passed by on the highway. I was only 20 minutes from my new home and spent the last 3 hours taking back roads since I didn't want to run it high RPMS for a full 2 hours. It nagged on my mind so I took the next exit miles down the road and looped miles back. Turns out he ran out of gas, and his custom bike didn't have a fuel gauge. Kind of surprised me he ran out of gas too. Then again, I've ran out of gas before because I was too in a rush to get to work and didn't make it all the way back home. Anyhow, he was only like 4 miles from the nearest gas station so we cut the top off my water bottle and tipped my sumo over to dump some in from my tiny tank. It was only like half a liter but enough to get him there.
