After a year of thought it’s finally happening and with a heavy, bittersweet heart I’m saying goodbye to my beloved California.

Last Friday, Tara my wife found an opportunity for us to house sit for 2 months in Floridah, for a couple who’s going on an extended vacation.

Not to worry though, after the 2 months we’re out of there and heading to the Carolina’s :D

The place is in FL is Ocala, in the northern panhandle and we’ll be taking care of 3 horses and the property. Thankfully, the house is beautiful and air conditioned with a pool.

Of course this is huge for us. We’ve been trying to move east for a while now but it’s almost impossible to job hunt from CA and we were waiting for her sister’s family to get settled in NC.

Here’s the scary catch. We need to leave on 7/1 so we can get there and learn the ropes (Literally) I have a little experience feeding and taking care of horses but I also need to drive a tractor, riding mower and learn how to work the generators in case of any big storms.

I bought a truck for the move but I’m selling my Mini, my bikes, my big ass BBQ and all the other knickknacks I don’t need or can’t fit in the container we’re shipping out there.

I’ll still be on the b.a.r.f. but will probably need to step down as a “mod”. I’m really really going to miss you guys but hope to visit often.

More to follow… :cool

Thanks :)

Yeah, my wife's really the beast :love And it's time for her to be closer to her family after like 15 year here.

Speaking of "companions". We're driving 2700 miles with my 12 Y/O lab and my Stupid Kat :wtf

Not worried about the tractor and stuff. It actually sounds like fun. I guess I'll find out

I'm hopeful for you! I think Carolinas are ultimately a pretty good spot; not so wild about Florida.

As before, you'll learn the motorized stuff very quickly. Horses are another thing to keep safe. As usual, use the Internet to bone up on basics of horse care. They can be very unpredictable creatures, subject to weird injuries and medical conditions (like colic), they are emotional animals and very responsive to how you act in turn. Honor their routines, understand their pecking orders, read up on the horse whisperers ideas. Your very first impression on them is super-important because they are watching you for cues. The whole deal with the horse whisperer is that first exposure and how you act. Its like a combination of nonchalance and mindfulness with 'em.

I really love my home of California and the Bay Area. But frankly, the only things worth staying for anymore are the sweet weather and the weekend proximity to cool places. Everything else is in such turmoil, the traffic, the taxation, the tech boom and subsequent big-money gentrificaiton pricing everyone out.

I think you have a better shot at a happy life elsewhere unless you gots bags of cash anymore around here.

Good luck and thanks for posting and giving us a chance to give our 2cents.

Congratulations to you two. I am jealous, it sounds a wonderful new chapter in your lives.

I admire you- those big changes are scary. What a beautiful part of the Country (NC). If you need a fishing companion, let me know.

One thing I learned the hard way is that there are no hotels available during 4th of july weekend, especially on 80 going across Nevada!

Make sure that you book your hotels on the way, unless you're camping, because you're going to have a hell of a time finding a room at the end of your first few days.

Congratulations I know you've been in hot pursuit of this since the day you met that beautiful woman.

Driving the mower, always remain cognicent about the fact that it is a piece of hydraulic equipment.Drive steady, read the grass if you spin up the mower too fast you increase the likelihood of winding something up in the blade and damaging the seal.

That's all I can offer you!
You are going to so rock this!
