This thread rocks

Hey All,

Picked up an 09 400sm about 2 months back. This thread has been awesome, thanks to all who contributed. Kinda like 1 stop shopping for what you need to do to a drz. :thumbup

Done so far:
- corbin seat so my short-ass legs can get feet down
- yoshi fender eliminator & rs2 exhaust.
- 3x3, dj stg2, kientech fs.
- probilllet rack with a pelican case on it (my friends think it's fugly, but I can
lock it, wingnutted from the inside).
- unabiker rad guards.
- aprilia mirrors (not in pic) much nicer than stock, I see behind me not elbows.
- Acerbis hand guards.
- ram mount for a garmin rino.
- all carb stuff fell off inexpicably :twofinger
- mcct (wow that cut down a lot of engine rattle).
- tt skid plate.
- r1 throttle tube.

Still to do:
- ss front brake line.
- sme axle blocks and sliders, when they get here.
- tt case savers.

Q - did Suzuki ever get around to properly loctiting the primary nut, or should I still be concerned (bike is new from the stealer)..

Cheers
Al..

ps, shout out to wicked4racing for helping me spend $$:kicknuts
here's my baby...

just put on my 04 R1 throttle tube for super dooper acceleration... definitely a worthy investment for anyone who is contemplating how to spend $15 on a drz:thumbup

Thanks for the info.
A couple questions:
1. Do you have the stock CV carb or the FCR
and which is supposed to work best with the R1 tube?

Related:
I chose the revolver adjustable motion pro for my RMZ racer
(you can change the wheels on the tube)-
am I better off just using this R1 tube perhaps?

Thanks,
Rich

Rich, I've got the FCR carb. I bought the OEM r1 throttle tube from bike bandit. I heard that the FCR has a longer pull than the stock vacuum carb. It definitely helps WOT, no more double fisted clutch-ups. I don't know much about the motion pro:dunno but I do know that the OEM tube was less than $20.

Thanks for the info.

I'd do the R1 (or Z1000) tube because they're cheap and available.

loctite fix, stator, and MCCT

Anyone nearby planning to do bike maintenance this weekend? I want to do the loctite fix, stator fix and MCCT install on Sat or Sun. If you've done them before and are planning a little wrenching, I have a garage. PM for address.

Buell headlight mod. ufo fender, langston racing mirrors. The fender and mirrors were a huge improvement in freeway handling

Me likey that buell headlight. :thumbup

Today I relocated the ignition to make room for the gps I ordered. I hate having a < 80 mile range and not knowing where the nearest gas station is :mad

DRZ400SM, FCR and R1 throttle tube here. I personally would like an even quicker throttle as full throttle is not the easiest for me to get to (although I just realized that only occurs to me when I try to do stand-up wheelies) so I like the idea of the configurable throttle assembly but probably not enough to spend the extra money.

Hello everyone,
I'm looking to pick up a DRZ400SM within a couple of months. This thread's been a wealth of information! Thanks for all your contributions!
Question: is there a particular year/generation of DRZ that would be more advantageous than others? I'm looking for a solid base for future upgrading for as much reliable & streetable power that the DRZ can offer.
Please post or PM any helpful advice.
Thanks!
Dave

2004 S had more adjustable suspension,
2005 SM came out along with upside down fork.

No power differences any year for an S or SM,
so no advantage there.

Just get one!:)

Most power-go to Sisneros Speed works/Epic Motorsports

or do your homework at Thumpertalk

You really need to tune up the suspension
to complete the package, though.

Just pick your color and enjoy. They are all the same. You can get some good used ones with all the tasty mods. The only ones I recommend for best bang per buck are... air box and jetting and up the front sprocket one tooth. You can go pretty crazy with big bore kits, etc.. but by then you might as well get a more capable bike for your needs.

Anyone done the E cams and E gasket on their SM ? How easy it is to do this, just easy swap and bolt-on? (OR cam chain/timing need to be adjusted too)

You're gonna need to adjust the valves, but it's bolt on besides that.

Adjust the valves like re-measure the gaps and use shims as required? Do you know if there is any writeup on TT. i searched for sometime, info is scattered around not just at one place.

Just picked up a 400SM from Fawndog(who was selling for a friend)
Now I get to read 19 pages of DRZ tuning madness.

YES.

Stan, get ready for a PM here in the next few days :twofinger
