There we have it boys and girls, Brad Stuart is back;

Darren Dreger ‏@DarrenDreger
Stuart agrees to 3 year contract with Sharks at $3.6 per. Takes less to sign with a team that's a good fit.

If I didn't hate the Sharks so much, I'd be stoked!

any hockey fan is welcome here...........to take a bunch of shit from the Sharks fans. :teeth

I thought Doug Wilson could've got him for cheaper. but still, $3.6M per for a known commodity and playoff stepper-upperer is not bad.

Ahaha...last year it was all Sharks fan and a single Red Wings fan. Though, it was real nice getting another fan's perspective on another team. Sometimes you find other people bitching about the same problems about their teams as you do yours ie my team is too soft, my team has no passion, my team can't score... :laughing

I like Stuart, but $3.6 mil?! For a 32 year old, mostly defensive defenseman? I think this shows how desperate the Sharks really are at the moment. I would have thought they could get him for $2.5 mil per.

Agreed. I'm not a fan of the Stuart signing. To me, he just seems like another Niclas Wallin or Colin White. Too much money spent on areas that don't even need the most work.

It's now official that McLellan returns for next season, but assistant coaching staff is still TBD. #SJSharks

Rumors start.....

I still believe the Stuart deal means D. Murray won't be here next season. He won't be on PK, and is too expensive for 3rd pair.

Well, he's waaaaaay better than either of those guys, I just don't know if I'd say he's $3.6 mil good. He's a 22 minute a night, positive +- player who's good for 25 points, and he's tough to play against, unlike Wallin or CW. We definately didn't get a home town discount on him though.

Murray's still under contract for one more year and won't be easy to move. He's too expensive and the league knows he's a step behind.

Maybe the Sharks can send Murray and Clowe over to the Wings. I wouldn't mind a couple of slower guys if it meant they'd throw their weight around and drop the gloves. :twofinger

With Lidstrom and Stuart gone, the Wings have lots of cap space to try and make a splash here in free agency, or via trade. It seems like Wings fans expect the moon, and no less than Suter and Parise just to get started. I'm excited to see what happens come July 1st, that's for sure, and I'm curious to see what kind of teams the Wings and Sharks are going to ice this fall.

Stuart is a solid addition to the blue line here in San Jose. I really liked having him in the top 4 in Detroit, and I'm happy for him that he gets a chance to be closer to his wife and step-kids here in San Jose. He eats up lots of even strength minutes, and can be an asset on the PK as well. While he has a decent shot, he didn't necessarily stand out on the PP. He plays physical, gritty hockey, and should be motivated to play for the home team. I hope he has a great season for San Jose, except of course when the play against the Wings. :teeth

We sure aren't going to get a even value trade for Murray. But if he does move, Murray will be the cornerstone of a package for something of a mid-range return.

I'll be shocked if anyone offers anything for Murray, other than a bottom feeder team swapping a bad contract to us in exchange. I'll be even more shocked if Murray is even in the league three years from now. I like him as a hard player, but I just think the game has become too fast for him. My bet is that he falls to the bottom pairing this year, his minutes get reduced and he doesn't get re-signed at the end of the season.

I think Murray will be more effective once his minutes are reduced. we also have to remember he had that orbital bone fracture thing...can't be fun and definitely would affect his play. I wouldn't be surprised if he's back to productive form next year, and if they cut him down to about 12 min a game he could be really effective.

I don't think you're giving Murray enough credit. Granted, he's no Brent Burns, ME-Vlasic, or any other high caliber player on that tier, but to a defense-lacking team Murray can be of use. Perhaps Edmonton or DW's favorite trading partner; Carolina, could use the services of Murray. I would predict in return of a 3rd/4th rounder.

What we get for Murray depends on the availability and caliber of other D at the time (if)we trade him. Desperate teams will pay when they have no choice..

No Colin White
No Jim Vandemeer
No trading a 2nd rounder at the deadline for a rental
No forcing a kid from the baby sharks to play in the NHL when he can't

Yeah, I'm happy about the signing.
