I always felt kinda sorry for them and when it was balls-hot on the grid.

Best Umbrella Girls of all time; any Dutch Grand Prix. Second best, Monaco.

Wow, political correctness going to far. Yes we look at the girls for a few minutes then we stare at the guys racing for hours. The racers are risking their health and life while these girls risk their dignity???

How are they losing their dignity?

They are models and they are doing their job. It's not like someone forced them to be there.

Way to put women out of work. Sexist and pathetic. Never watching F1 again.

Meh, the idea of grid girls are pretty pointless to begin with. And "tradition" is a garbage argument for having them there.

I'm not losing any sleep over it.

also, lol at dudes that are so insecure abt their sexuality that they "stop watching f1 cause no grid girls is the final straw". jesus fuck go drive off a bridge already.

Grid girls is hardly a job. They get paid less than minimum wage. It’s a day that starts before dawn and ends after the cocktail parties. But it’s an entry, a way to meet people in marketing, PR, media, communication, etc. It’s an ‘investment’ we all do that may lead to something nice. If one of motorsports’ many complaints is a lack of women representation, now there’ll be even less. Go figure.

And seriously, why are men still telling women what to do and what they can’t do?

F1 has many problems in regards to spectatorship...the grid ladies were not one of them.

That said, it has been interesting to read the many comments from those championing the movement, and from many of the ladies that are losing their lively hood. As with many things, it doesn't seem that their was a lot of communication from each end of the spectrum on this one.

I guess :popcorn at this point

Grid girls, NFL cheerleaders, booth babes - they're all there for marketing. The corporations and sponsors that make tightly-clad women part of the show would not have them there if the dollar metric wasn't right on a spreadsheet. The F1 ban is recognizing the need to draw in a new, younger audience to perpetuate the income stream who are more SJW as the older audience ages out. Money is still money. 20th century libido as a business model is subject to change - the entire premise it's sacrilege to get rid of them is a testimonial to how successful the product placement has been over the years.

Other than the miserable pay they earn for the very long hours literally on their feet, there was nothing non-SJW about the gig. There's nothing lewd, suggestive, indecent, ugly, porn, bad taste, whatevs about them. I think we're on the same side on this; much ado about nothing.

Just remember, this isn't F1 trying to be altruistic, standing up against exploration, or anything of the like. They're trying to appease a group and gain more viewers. While diehard and casual fans may bitch about it, most folks are still going to be watching the races. Their hope is for more to be doing the same with this recent change.

Do you have a source for the pay being less than minimum wage?
