No, I wouldn't. Santa Barbara County has an estimated 20,000 unlicensed, illegal aliens driving here. I have a sneaking suspicion that they have been instructed to leave them alone.

They should make driving without a license a felony with a 1 year minimum mandatory sentence.

I would agree if getting a license was evidence of any sort of driving skill. Unfortunately, the tests are a joke and the skill hurdle to getting a license gets lower and lower. At this point, it is just a inconvenience to get a license rather than a challenge.

The SUV driver was a guy from Sebestopol with an otherwise clean driving record who was DUI this morning.

Might want to rail against DUI and not the licence test in this case, after all BARF is about personal responsability not more government regulations. Get with the program.

We need to have decent public transit before we start making driving test more difficult. You can blabber about dring being a privilege all day, every day, but in the end if it's the only reasonable way for someone to get to work, said someone will drive without a license.

To make public transit happen we need to curb a bunch of pseudo "green" stupid shit measures, that do more harm than good to the environment. But this would upset too many "feel-good" voters who never bother doing the homework on the measures that they vote for.

Therefore, nothing will change. Every year we're gonna have innocent drivers and motorcycle riders killed by people who don't belong behind the wheel. This is the price that our society has quietly agreed to pay for stupidity and ignorance. If things get worse, I'll start driving my M923A2 to work daily. I live pretty close to work, and should be able to afford the diesel fuel.
