Look, for instance, at the long list of startup scandals enumerated by Erin Griffith in her December 2016 Fortune article about “the ugly unethical underside of Silicon Valley.” Theranos was there, of course, but so were, among many others, Hampton Creek; Zenefits; Lending Club; Skully; ScoreBig; Rothenberg Ventures; Faraday Future; Hyperloop One; and, of course, Uber. Most of those companies ended up embroiled in nasty civil lawsuits, but none of them, except for Theranos, ended up with criminal charges.

the thing that i find so odd, is that there was so much unchallenged craziness in the theranos claims. the diagnostics industry is not new or underdeveloped. there is a shit-ton of science begind it - ESPECIALLY related to blood. more bizarre still was their ability to fly so long under the radar of regulatory oversight. normally, a diagnostics company can’t sneeze without the FDA rushing in to count the water molecules that were spewed out.

and i LOL at the investors. did they even ask for, let alone read an independent dossier on the company before throwing cash at it? lot’s of blind eyes involved here. :rolleyes

Especially when there is GAMBLNG there is crime. Any speculative investment is gambling, so be it dominoes on the corner or Wall Street, somebody is always trying to fix the dice in their favor. Venture Capitalism is a crap shoot.
