Tesla Model S P85 Vs Corvette C7 Z51

Launch control, no shifting, yet two different outcomes. Just goes to show that no matter how easy the cars make it to be consistent, poor driver skill will always shine bright.

Yeah in that first race, the Corvette has a terrible holeshot and the Tesla has a near perfect light. Maybe the guy wasn't ready for the tree to start. That's why sometimes it sucks to be the last guy to stage. You don't get a lot of time to be ready once both cars are staged.

Then again the Corvette has an even shittier RT in the second race but since the Tesla actually gave up some time in the RT also, the Vette wins.

Reactions equal, the Corvette wins everytime. Look at the ETs. The Tesla doesn't have the legs to keep up with the gas burner past the 1/8th.

No it didn't. It nailed the start as perfectly as you could ask for - .005 RT. Check the timing slips at the end of the video.

You're right, watched it in fullscreen. Tesla starts moving @:38, right as the third yellow comes on. He didn't move enough to trip the red, though. Sure looked like he jumped from the other side of the tree, though.

I heard that Tesla is going to Oklahoma City for a race :toothless

That was a pretty wide angle shot, nice camera.
Electric cars always showed good acceleration way back as far as 80's concept vehicles.

Staging order is no excuse when running on a sportsman tree. It takes forever and a day for those three lights to go down. If you can't cut a good light on a sportsman tree, then you're a total beginner.

Regarding the times themselves, ignoring the reaction times, the Corvette had the race the whole way starting at the 60' all the way through. There are two reasons why the race was even close:

1. The Vette's gearing is too tall for the dragstrip.
2. The torque curves of electric motors are backward. They actually have more torque at lower RPM's, so they tend to launch and come out of corners better.

I thought electric cars had 100% of the torque available instantly and in fact people who drag race them routinely snap axles. It was something I saw once on TV over ten years ago.

The funny thing is the tesla would now need to be pushed onto a trailer to make the trek home since its now out of juice. Cool race, faster than I had expected

You would like to think so, but no, the Tesla recovered 50% of the energy used (about 5 cents worth) with regen- braking and it has a range of 265 mile range.

Wouldn't mind trying a couple dozen times. They're only $70k and a 3-4 month wait list. Think they'll let me take one on an extended test drive up to Sac?
