'tard questions

I have a couple borderline-'tards; an XR100 and a 650L. The 100, I've taken to Stockton several times during Monday/Tuesday practice. I was planning on racing it this year, but various circumstances have severely delayed that, so maybe next year. :(

Anyways... the XR is stock, other than seat, tank and bars. It currently has Avon Gripsters on it and I have a set of even more street-oriented Pirellis for it. I find it to be a blast on very twisty, bumpy roads.

My questions....... would it be completely ill advised to take the 650 to a practice day, even with the Pirellis? Are 21/18" wheels and stock brakes hopelessly useless and is the L just too much of a pig to tear around on the kart track?

Also, I need to have the rims on my 100 trued. I've adjusted the spokes so they're not too loose or tight, tho they are still about out of whack. Any place in particular who will true these things? I live in the Central Valley, so if someone out here could do it, that'd be a bonus.

Anyways, I hope to slowly get more 'tarded and might even eventually get 17" wheels and such for the XR, but one step at a time for now. :teeth

short answer...yes....pig, for sure.....brakes and cornering grip will suck but it might be fun anyway, just not fast....

Just take it to the track and ride.

I've seen people running Zuma scooters around the track dragging their little plastic bits in the corners. Basically run what you brung. If you can ride your bike safely on the street then you should be able to manage biz at the track on a practice day.

If you can dodge a wrench you can dodge a ball.

Sweet, thanks for the link, how convenient, a good wheel shop only a half hour away and I didn't even know about it.

The main thing I notice while riding quickly is the fact that the 650 tends to plow the front wheel and serious brake divage. Still, I'm sure it'd be fun. I just hope I don't slow anyone down toooo much.

Dunno when I'll be out there again, but I will be. :)
