supermoto protective gear

All,

I was wondering what everyone's take is on protective gear for supermoto. I have found the TLD leather speed jacket and was wondering if anyone had an opinion.

see it here

My 1 piece leather suit is great and the protections is amazing (I finally crash tested it), but it is so damn hot.

I am kinda on the fence about moving over to something like this because I know how well a 1 piece works but again it is very uncomfortable and energy draining when it is hot. Also the Leatt brace does not work with my 1 piece because of the speed hump.

I am looking for pros and cons and personal opinion.

Thanks.

I've been wearing an Aerostich on my KLX650. It's not yet 'tarded, but that doesn't really effect riding position... anyway, it's got enough vents in it that it isn't too hot. I've ridden the bike in 100F weather and it isn't too bad, although my legs and especially feet get pretty hot. Nothing you can really do about feet in serious boots though, other than good socks.

As long as your protective gear covers your important and vulnerable joints (shoulders, elbows, knees, ankles) I would consider that decent gear.

Option 1: Leather road race armored suit and boots.

Option 2: Aerostitch type armored suit.

Option 3: Armored jacket, knee/shin guards worn under pants and boots.

Option 4: Dirt bike attire with armored vest, elbow guards, knee/shin guards and boots.

My road leathers and track leathers are both perforated, and they've done fine for supermoto so far. I decided from the getgo that I had to get perforated leather - you can always layer up underneath if it's too cold, so I planned for the hot.

Oh now you tell me :rant

I wear the leathers in the winter.
MX gear w/protection in the summer.

My only bitch with my leathers is they don't move/flex well with supermoto form. Yes sm610 I'm trying to keep the elbows up :twofinger Thought about having them worked on, but.........I'm lazy.
This may change the first time I go down fast in mx gear, but so far :thumbup
Mx gear is buy far the most comfortable on a long hot day.

My :2cents

The TLD is a combo of leather and MX gear. This is very appealing to me. Like you said leathers dont work well with supermoto, well at least a suit designed for roadracing. Just looking for something comfortable and that will provide good protection.

Zoinks!!!!
Perforated leathers sound like the best bet. My 'Stich suit is a shit ton hotter than my 1pc leathers.

Depends on the track. Short, tight Kart tracks (Stockton, Prairie City, etc), my new favorite setup is the Troy Lee Speed supermoto pants, mx knee pads, and an AlpineStar Bionic suit. Faster tracks like Reno/Fernley, I'll stick with my full leathers if the temp allows. 110+ deg in leathers sucks. Same temp in the Troy Lee gear still sucks - just not quite as much.

Y'all make sense; big track leathers, small track TLD gear. This sounds really good. If I pull the trigger I will post what I think. I would wear them with leather pants, as I already have leather pants from a two piece that I have as well.

I hate to say it I will not be at Matt's Sunday event. I spoke with him about it and it sounds like a great day. I will be in Hawaii (Maui) with my wife for vacation, so you can imagine how difficult of a decision this was for me. Hawaii:party, Stockton:ride, Hawaii:party, Stockton:ride. Actually I have never been to Hawaii so I am very excited about the trip. I will be at the track (Stockton) this next monday.

I have been using the TL body armor and it fits good and has the protection in the right place but it can get a bit hot, not leather hot but still. It does leave a bunch of black "belly button" lint on every shirt i wore with it though.

At least for me, it fits good, is not to cumbersome or restrictive and has extra leather. I have seen some armor with no leather and i would prefer one with since i ride more street then dirt with the SM.

TLD suit and an mx jersey for me too. But I wear it with my Alpine star leather pants. Held up great to the one crash I had at stockton. Shredded the jersey but the suit came through big time. Not even the least bit sore. I actually use it for all of my dirt riding too (but not the leathers lol). One of the best gifts I've ever received! :teeth

I have the TLD pants and upper armor and haven't used them at the track. I bought them for Stockton and similar tracks. I have "tested" my A-star full suit 3 times at Stockton and I'm really happy with the results. I fear the TLD setup would not hold up nearly as well. I'm sure it's decent though. Has anyone crashed multiple times in the TLD setup?

I have a Joe Rocket supermoto suit and that thing (once you are moving anyway!) lets in tons of air...I don't even use it on the street much because it's too frikn cold! -even in warm weather.
I think it's cut different for sm compared to rr suits, I like it but it is a little restrictive to movements and thereby absorbes some energy. If I lost about ten pounds it might be better though!
For me on an asphalt track with other aggressive riders it's the way to go.
I do like the tld stuff though, lots of pros run them as well.
For steet I usually use armored pants, my crossfires and an armored astar (canvas type) jacket.

:thumbup i want to have something made to cover the velcro area where my pucks are so it does not get dirty, the velcro, and i do not have to wear the pucks when i don't need them. my leathers are perforated.. ... and so are my textiles... i have been wearing my dainese air textile pants with just a leather jacket that zips to them and the back protector. shoes.. i need a pair a sidis discovery rains.. i have been wearing the puma brutalles and they are just okay for that.. i wish they made a hybrid boot that is like the dainese axial stivale outs and the viruaga (something like that)... i like having a full toe slider.
