Sun.,Nov.22 mellow Woodside>Moto Show ksu 9:30am

Sport Touring ride over to coast, thru Pescadero to San Mateo for the last day of the International Motorcycle Show. :cool

Meet at Woodside Bakery and Café 3052 Woodside Rd, near the corner of Cañada Rd @ 9:15 am, gassed and caffeined up. Kickstands up @ 9:30. I’ll leave Walnut Creek $Bux, @ 8. Total mileage Woodside to San Mateo 75 miles. Total time including stops about 3 hours. We will stop in Pescadero on the return trip to refuel, stretch, and grab a snack.

See this link http://www.motorcycleshows.com/SanMateo for more information regarding the show. We’re starting this ride early enough that we can get to the show for at least a few hours before they close at 5pm. :)

One day admission to the show is $15, but you can save $3 by getting your ticket online or showing up early for this ride. I’ll have two $3 discount coupons. Parking at the show is free for motos. You can get lunch in San Mateo at or near the San Mateo County Event Center 2495 S. Delaware St.

RAIN CANCELS, see
http://www.weather.com/outlook/heal...HourHealthCommand&from=whatmenu_dropdown_lawn
If the forecast is greater than 60% chance of precip, I’m not going to show up. I’ll drive the cage directly to the show instead of being wet all day long! In any case, be prepared for cold, damp weather.

This is a ride for experienced riders on appropriate motos and safety gear in good condition, especially that most important equipment inside your helmet. The pace will be moderate, with some spirited sections. :ride Be careful of frosty or wet pavement, especially early in the ride.

Remember, Ride Your Own Ride. Use your Head before your Twist your Wrist. And, doh, Enjoy the Ride! :thumbup

ON, but careful on wet roads

Yes, the ride's still on. But humidity right now is 100% on coastal side so much of the roadway is wet. I'm going to wear a rainsuit even though it's only 10-20% chance of precip. I'll look for you in Woodside!

Brian, here's some tips for a successful mellow group ride:

1. Mellow means mellow.
2. Group means group.
3. Know the route, know the stops.
4. Wait for and check on riders.

Food for thought.

Marc.

Hi Marc,

This was a short-ish 3 hour ride to arrive mid-day at the IMS. We stopped at STP so you could gas up, and I planned a second stop at Pescadero on our return. Otherwise, our social time was the at the cafe meet point. I have to say I enjoyed our conversation there and was pleased to make your acquaintance.

Gee, I thought it was pretty mellow. We were generally at or slightly above the speed limit. :ride I checked for all riders in my mirrors frequently. If there seemed to be much of a gap, or there seemed to be a problem, we slowed or even stopped a few times. The gap was never very big. I stopped at all major intersections to clarify the direction.

I'm sorry I missed the turn in Lahonda, I should have studied the maps more thoroughly.:facepalm I then asked, "Is everybody, is everything OK?" "Yes."

When we turned onto Bean Hollow Rd toward Pescadero, James said he was going to head home sooner. I mistook his meaning---I thought he was going to turn off at the next turn in Pescadero (my planned stop). Instead you and he apparently hung a quick U turn, then went north on Hwy 1. I'm OK with that, it was just a simple misunderstanding. Was there something else that happened?

By the way, your "don't wait for me"...what exactly does that mean? :wow

Hwy 84 slippery

Thanks Marc, James, Matthew and your charming SO passenger (Nari..t...z...?) for showing up for Sunday's ride. Although there wasn't much precip., the roads on the western side were mostly wet. And the final leg on Hwy 35 North of Alice's/STP had a little rain and lots of very low clouds! :wtf

:shocker Did anyone else feel slippy-slidy on Hwy 84 LaHonda Rd? I thought I saw a trail of oil from Lahonda West and as we retraced from Lahonda East and felt a little slippage. Anyone else? MODS, should I post this somewhere?

Is there some matrix for % chance precip/% humidity/degrees temperature? This would have been a day to consult that chart! I was shivering for a while after I arrived at the IMS show.

But the route was interesting. I especially like the Cloverdale > Gazos Creek > Hwy1 > Bean Hollow loop.

Matt and Nar., Thanks for sticking it out! I hope you enjoyed the ride and the show.
James, thanks for keeping me company up there.
Marc, I hope we can both enjoy another ride together sometime...
:dunno

Brian,

I'm sure we'll ride again, but I strongly recommend you join one of Rene's or Connie's mellow group rides to have a feeling for it.

Mellow really means mellow, as in putzing, as in not a lick above the posted speed limit, as in slow down and smell the roses, as in soccer moms in minivans overtaking you. Especially for Sunday's weather and road conditions.

Group really means group. Yes, I go by "In No Hurry" and "Don't Wait For Me", but did you come back to check if I had crashed or the bike broken down? When James was no longer in my rear mirrors, I went back for him. I couldn't find him, so I resumed your route, and couldn't find you either.

Again, just food for thought. If you don't want to change how you ride your rides, perhaps you want to drop the "mellow" from the description, and everybody will understand what you mean.

Be well,

Marc.
