Taze away, Yana...
74° in the city, but tomorrow morning I'll be in Redding with a lovely 106°! Not looking forward to it in the least. Wednsday I'll be a touch cooler in Chico with a cool 98°...

Why I have chosen this path in life, I'll never know.

Hot, damn Hot. And tomorrow will be worse. Golf fundraiser for Chico State - I've done this before and it was 106 and some of the holes were humid. Old farmers dropping like flies.

I went to Sacramento today, on purpose. :laughing

Hottest I saw was 106, but it really didn't feel that bad to me. I kind of enjoyed it.

Tired SRE
Try having to sleep through it with no Central AC and no insulation.. Landlord did install double pane windows though!
:rofl

Cause those will help.. with no air gap between the ceiling and roof.. and no exterior wall insulation. My little 12k BTU portable unit is -not- cutting it.
:cry

I had a dream about building a water cooled bed out of a waterbed the other day..

SummerLove-

I have A/C, wink wink. :teeth

I just got my A/C installed 2 months ago as part of my remodel. I LOVE it!!! I have not noticed an increase in my bills yet. I only run it when the inside temps are around 80.

No, I do not have solar.

I don't know about your A/C, but mine is 240vac on a 30a breaker. The Renogy 250w panels are about $300ea and if you needed 29 of them, that's $8700 in panels alone. Figure another $2-3k for low end charge controllers, inverters and batteries. I realize you'd likely be charging more hours than the A/C is running, so it doesn't need to be 1:1 like that, but it's still pricey. Maybe a small cabin with a 120vac unit pulling 10a, that's pretty doable.

And we rode Georgetown yesterday...*cough*though one of the guys was feeling dizzy and nauseous*cough*.

I;m in denial about solar roof panels. I've had the sales pitches for buy it or lease it, and it just isn't that attractive an offer yet...And frankly, I can't make up my mind between the two. Buy it now, and risk the tecnology making quantum leaps and being stuck with old shit that I am still paying off, or leasing it from somebody who gets most of the savings...

Curious, of those who bought it retail (as opposed to self-installation, being a pro in the field) whether most here bought or lease.

Can't contribute a thing, as the question is asked.

All I know from the variety of ways it has been done in the area I'm at...

It runs the spectrum...

The most impressive case, is a guy (recently retired science teacher) that
lives off grid, powers his straw bale house
(straw bales were free, that's how they are from rice growing)..He make so much power, he heats water with electricity, in the winter, and running that under the floor, heats his house.

Other end of the Spectrum..Large ranch with Horse training clinics, had Solar Engineered, everything contracted out, to qualify for the loan on the property, that the grid didn't come to..And the property had to have power, to qualify for the loan.

Actually several neighbors with ranches, fall into that case.

In between is the do your own engineering and installation, buy your components.. And do everything your self.

Everyone out here is solar, in one way or another.

Not doing it at all, is like not buying a motorcycle, because we know better,
is coming at some time in the future.

And if you don't do it at all....Your paying PG&E every month, for their service.

SKRRRRRRRRRRRT!!!!!!
i like the idea, not for roadways though. maybe parking lots, roof tops and sidewalks. i dont see them being as durable as they claim. who pays the bill when and accident occurs and you tear up the road way? are you responsible for that fix? what happens if damage occurs? do you have to shut down an entire lane of traffic to make repairs? i know these are not every day situations but if something were to happen it would be a huge inconvenience. ive seen major truck accidents where they came grinding to a hault and tore a good 3-6in deep gap in the road, i could just see the road repair bill. but still a cool idea
