So I want to do a Lost Coast/Avenue of the Giants trip (as I need to go to Ukiah and since I'm up there will like to spend a couple of extra days camping up in that area. I've been looking at some old posts here and in advrider and noticed all (that I could find) camping rides up there were done with dual sport (specifically Lost Coast).

Is it possible ride and camp at the Lost Coast with a street only bike? If it's possible please let me know what road, route, etc. I know a dirt/dual purpose is the way to go but unfortunately I do not have one....yet. :cool

what do you mean street only? paved roads only? the main roads are mostly paved:
garberville->briceland->shelter cove, briceland->ettersberg->wilder ridge->honeydew has a mile or two of steep gravel, it climbing out of honeydew; i think all of the mattole road is paved, though i've only been from honeydew to ferndale. should be gas in shelter cove (expensive), honeydew (not bad), petroila (?).

this looks like a neat if slightly out of date book:

Thanks everyone for the feedback! Yes I am looking for paved to semi paved roads up there. So far a lot of the cool threads I see on Advrider.com are of dual sports and I was starting to think perhaps street only bikes could not access it. But since my OP I've started finding some paved roads up around there.

Defyinertia, I saw your other post! Man I hope to do a similar type of ride in the next couple of weeks.

NorCalBusa, can you suggest some routes/roads for me? :cool
