Stupid Alpinestars Question

Got tilt?
So I've been wearing my new two-piece suit non zipped the first few rides, getting them broken in a little. I just went to zip them together for the first time and I notice that both halves have a mating zipper.

Ok, no problem, take one side off both and voila, right? Well they are different size zips. The jacket side of the zip is 1.5" longer than the pants. Now I'm really confused, as the jacket and pant are the same size, EU40 :confused :wtf

No I know I can go get the "right" extra half of the zip put on, but I'm not wanting to pay for someone elses fuck-up. What to do, this is not normal, right?

You got the TZ-1 jacket and the Track pants, right?

Mine fit just fine, mine are 42's though, but that shouldn't make any kind of difference.

Tyler,

I got the track pant and the stunt jacket. It shouldn't make a difference though, it's the same size fer Christs sake. What sucks is I think I'm screwed, as I got them through NewEnough. Who knows, they've been good to me in the past, maybe they can do something for me, like credit the alteration cost against another jacket that I need to get for Lorinda to get on the track. Just a whacky thing, ya know?

the pants and jacket zippers are different on purpose to accomodate different sized people.....

some people are bigger on top and smaller waisted and others are the other way around.....

this way a person in either circumstances can zip the jacket/pants together without the customer having to do any alterations to it......

that is normal for the alpinestars track pant with sliders and the stunt jacket. one is longer than the other, even if they are the same size.

John, but with a tag end like that, is it secure enough? Seems like a possible failure point in a crash situation. I looked and I guess its a pretty easy point on the jacket to sew the correct size zipper if it would make it stronger. Guess I'll meander over to Johnsons tommorow and ask them.

To be honest with ya...no its not .....

If you really want a secured jacket/pants zipper, have Johnson's Leather sow, sew, (what da hell's the correct spelling??) stitch on on the big YKK teeth zippers similar to the zippers on the sleeves and the main one....

the smaller teeth are the euro zippers which is fine for street use at street pace but if on the track, you'd probably want to get the bigger American stamdard larger zippers....

if youre going to do all that, might as well relocate the area where both connects with less play where both zippers from the leathers of the jacket instead on the liner to the pants.....

for some reason, I feel like knitting a sweater after this thread.....:laughing

Johnson did a complete custom suit for me, and I tell ya, the construction and materials are absolutely first rate. It doesn't have any of the bling graphics on it (although they can do that stuff too), I just went for all black. But man is that thing built! It actually weighs 19 pounds. That's a shitload of heavy leather!

My Dainese 2-piece has a thick ol' RI brand 360 degree zip. I'm always surprised when people say the European two pieces are small tooth thingies. Mine isn't.

Update: Johnson's told me not to worry about the extra little bit of zipper. So he's just gonna sew on my barf patch for me :thumbup

I had no idea there was such a thing as a BARF patch. Does it work? I need some way to cure myself of my BARF addiction.
