Stuck in Kona... sorta, but not really

Been in Hawaii since just before Christmas. There were seven of us. So much fun! We've seen and done so much. One highlight was going to bed early New Year's Eve, leaving Kona at 1:30am, heading for Pahoa, meeting up with a guide, hiking out to see the lava spilling into the ocean, then watching the sun rise New Years morning. I'll never forget that. Now... friends gone, brother in law and nephew gone, and now wife and son gone. I'm staying an extra week to work on the house we stayed in. Now I'm lonely. I'll be done with chores in short order. What to do on my own. Feels odd with no one here to share the adventure. I guess I'm not a loner. Yeah. I know. First world problems. I could rent a bike. No helmet required, I have plenty of shorts, t-shirts, slippahs, and a backpack. /rant

When I used to go to Hawaii, I used to rent a harley for 4 hours and ride it around the island. Only time I ride a harley, seemed like the right bike for the environment.

Funny, Climber. I was thinking the same thing. :thumbup

Go up to the temple where they used to sacrifice people. It's right by Kamehameha's birthplace. Eerie as fuck.

Seems a scooter would be a better fit. Not to mention more fun and capable.
A scooter is ok, rented those too in places, but it's a means to get some place not really the same kind of experience.

But there's nothing quite like rolling around the island on a harley. Try it sometime and you'll see. :ride

I rented an FXR lowrider on Oahu, and a fatboy on Maui, to compare rigid/rubber motor mounts and the ride. Both for 24 hrs, I ended up buying a fatboy.
If I was to return to the islands, I would rent a dual-sport instead of a car for my time there.
I suspect Kona would be the island to explore with the D/S.
But yea, cruising with the harley to me was one step below renting a Ferrari. They had those available for a little more than the lowrider.

No hookers. No blow. I love my wife, my son, my family and my friends. The Facebook comment bugged me, so I thought about why that was today... cause... like I had time, man. Why did I post this at all? I guess I was unprepared for how ordinary it feels here when there's no one here to share it with. Hawaii is incredibly special with family and friends. :cool

It made me think about group rides and why I like them so much. I guess I really am a people person. Just has to be the right people. :laughing

So I've replaced two ceiling fans, two toilet wax gaskets, installed rope lights on the lanai, tuned up the garage door, sorted out the window blinds, made a dump run with a rental car. My friend who owns the place had a stroke 3 years ago. He's coming back here for the first time at the end of the month. May be his last trip here. I want it to be perfect when he gets here. :thumbup

Dude, I enjoyed the thread. Not sure what the facebook comment was supposed to mean, but it was douchy.

I love the Big island. There's tons of stuff to do there even on your own. You'll find your way.
