SKRRRRRRRRRRRT!!!!!!
so i got some good info from the ranger matt. very cool guy. very strict but after talking to him i understand why he is the way he is when it comes to the rules and laws. a few questions came up mostly my own but i heard a few others wondering why as well.

1. why are there so many trees tagged but havent been logged?
A: epa apparently slapped them with a law suit for starting to log the dead burnt trees :wtf DO NOT COMPLAIN TO THE MAIN OFFICE ABOUT THE TREES. Matt told me if they get a number of complaints about the trees they will shut down the park for being "unsafe" it has been brought up before and luckily he slapped it down.

2. why can we ride on the road near camp as years ago we couldnt?
A: The BRC and Matt went to bat for us on that. Our OHV money paid for those roads to be paved so we can ride on them.

3. What are the best ways to help the park?
A: become a member if you arnt already and get involved with the blue ribbon coalition(BRC). a lot of the trail work is done by them. Butch and I will be discussing a possible summer trip to help with trail maintenance for those interested.

4. why are some of the trails around letts lake closed?
A: because people cant stay on the trails....:mad

5. why is the mountain and mine camp shut down?
A: That red dirt forms Nasty and deep ruts when it rains and if a vehicle goes in it wont come out easily if at all.

6. Whats with the big piles of debri around camp?
A. "these college idiots who have never had a job that they just hired thought it would be a good idea to leave the piles for campers to burn." "uhh arnt you not supposed to burn dead pine needles in a fire? especially in a place that is notoriously known for having a long dry season and just had a major fire?" ":rolleyes ï know, i know"

7. The fouts springs boys camp is abandoned any plans with that?
A: Matt is trying to convince the park to turn that into a small bike only play area being that they own the property. The trails at stony are tough and intimidating for small children, he wants to have an area with trails and a small track that kids can enjoy.

after this conversation i gathered that he is very frustrated with the direction the park is going. get involved and do whatever you can to help keep places like stonyford open. matt said hes been working there over 20 years now and this year is the first year he is not allowed to help with medical emergencies. he can only show up and call in medical help. there are so many things he wants to do to improve the park but he gets slapped down every time. his hands are tied and you can truly see the disappointment in his eyes which as a rider and frequent user of the park is a little scary. it almost seems like we are walking a fine line of the park being closed and having another clear creek on our hands

The 'new' person in charge is some lady that transferred from Hollister. You will know when you meet her, not real pleasant. Also Hence the widening of trails over the last 5 years because they have been using equipment to trail work. She thinks Hollister is just the best ever and Stony should be just like it...barf.

Yeah Matt wasn't happy with whoever did the grading. 40 is a shit show right now. One of the sediment run offs was dug down too deep which left about a 4 foot drop straight down coming over a blind crest. I threw some logs down so other riders knew to make the turn sooner. It was/is a law suit waiting to happen. Plus how hard is it to stop a dozer hop out and throw the 30 lb rock to the side that you left in the middle of the trail

Some nice ideas with the Boys Camp property & trail maintenance.
The EPA telling the Forest Service how to manage a forest is unfortunate. I'd love to send a note to the EPA to butt out, but they would probably turn that into more hardship on the Stony crew.
