It's been over 30 years since the last Stockton mile. Last weekend was the largest spectator event ever held there. 7000 people

It was fun to watch and wander around the pits. Saw people I haven't talked to in years and we met this guy in the stands who is 82 years old and still involved in the sport (he doesn't race anymore but he was there helping someone else who does race).

Wade Boyd's race (#10 I think) was just plain inspiring.

I took pictures in the pits, one of a bike that used to be in the family that was sold to a flat tracker. I haven't taken them off the card yet but if they turned out alright I'll post them.

So that's what real men look like.... I still cannot imagine the mental toughness it would take to pitch that thing sideways at then end of a 1/4 mile straight with blacking out!!! Those guys are unreal!!! Hats off to them, and great pics!!!

Jesus christ... what doesn't Wade race? He was even kicking our ass at the go-karts at Miller Saturday afternoon after racing on the track all day.

No kidding, and race well. He's been one of my racing heroes since I was a baby racer with yellow plates.

I used to race an FZR400 that was covered in fake leopard fur. CCS, when they held events is California, used to have a class for sidecars. I was at an event at THill and took off on my bicycle for some reason and while I was gone Wade comes over to my pit and pets my bike (so I was I told, I wasn't there). One of my heroes comes to my pit and I'm not there. Fate is sometimes unkind.

Although both these TZ750's were there on Sunday, I didn't see them on the track.

This HD WR (Harley's racing 45), that was at the Stockton mile, used to be red and it used to be owned by Francis "Cliff" Clifford who was a flat tracker in NorCal in the 40s and 50s. He taught me a lot about working on old bikes and helped me find my 42 HD WLA. Normally the Army model 45s were slow but my motor is stroked (to 52) really well tuned and has Sifton cams in it. Cliff challenged me to a street drag race, this WR against my stroker, because he wanted to see just how good my motor was. It was a dead heat.

The bike belongs to Chris Rudy now who finished 2nd in classic brakeless in Stockton on Sunday.

I want one of these to roll around town on. How much do they go for?

Well, WRs were purpose built factory racers and not available to the public making them very hard to come by, and unless town is full of flat tracks you would need to add stuff like lights which if done to a real WR would/should be a crime.

If you want the roll around town equivalent in roll around town condition, expect to pay in $20K range.

If you find one don't expect to roll either. It's more like shake, hop, rattle around town. Foot clutch/hand shift is fun though. You can get a bag of groceries and carry it home in your lap because the foot clutch frees up a hand.

Quoted from the flat track forum...

We were parked across from Wade in the pits. To be honest, not knowing who he was, we dismissed him as a misguided soul. One of the guys in our pit went over to talk to him and get his story. He started going on about nobody knew him but his middle name is "Talent"... so he was further dismissed. Most of us were hoping he didn't get hurt. Obviously, the only hurting was the one he put on the rest of the class.

After the race, our guy went over and told him "when you showed up, we thought you were a dumbass. Turns out it was us that were the dumbasses". It ain't bragging if you can back it up, and Wade Boyd did. Hats off you you in the win... one of the cooler races on Sunday.

:rofl:rofl:rofl
