2013 Flat Track to Stop at Colonial Downs
Courtesy of AMA Pro Racing Wednesday, April 17, 2013

Officials from AMA Pro Racing announced today the addition of Colonial Downs to the 2013 AMA Pro Flat Track presented by J&P Cycles schedule. The circuit, which measures in at just over a mile, will feature the stars of the rolling thunder show on August 24, 2013 as Round 12 and brings the total number of mile races on the schedule to six. The race will mark the first time in the storied history of the Grand National Championship that the series will visit Colonial Downs, located in New Kent, Virginia.

"We're thrilled to bring our series to the legendary Colonial Downs race track," said Dan Johnsen, Director of AMA Pro Flat Track. "We are very proud to add a venue of this caliber to our schedule. Our riders will now have one more opportunity to battle for position in the point standings and also allows us to showcase our magnificent sport to a new market hungry for flat track racing."

The AMA Pro Grand National Experts will roll out their twin-engine machines on the last Saturday of August as Colonial Downs is one of the largest dirt tracks in the United States, coming in at 1.25 miles. The rising stars in the J&P Cycles Pro Singles will have their skills put to the ultimate test in late August aboard their 450cc machines, in a race which will surely come down to the wire.

And it is not going over so well with a lot of teams and racers. Some say it will create an unsafe racing, will be to costly to teams compared to the 450's. They cant afford to run two classes if they want to run the twins

As I'm reading it, there doesn't seem to be any reason for the guys chasing the 450 championship to run a bike in the new twins class as it'll be a separate points structure

That is correct, the purpose was to offer a second class to get the singles more attuned to riding a twin. It is not economical to run a single and then build a twin that is scaled back. I think it would bring a bigger draw of racers from the local areas "Maybe" but that is from what chatter I hear is the part the racers do not like, unskilled.

Flat track is stepping up. The return to California has been huge IMO.

We have quite the crew of California racers and having the steel shoe'd racing community come back here has been well received. Stockton now.. sweet.

I am bummed I am a no go due to some medical crap, but I hope many barfers get out there and feel the thunder of AMA Flat track. A great show.

Plus the racers are down to earth and approachable as well.

Good guys and a couple of good girls. Rock the Stockton.. rock the ride.

I think the new series sounds good.. getting young talent in the show is good for both the young talent and the show. :thumbup

Budman you are correct it is, I have asked the question on flattrackers.com on how the entire new twins Basic is. Oddly, I get more PM's from the GNC Riders that do not want to say, but they do not favor it.

Flattrackers.com will be at the Stockton 1/2 mile. We will be setup in the Infield and broadcasting live the mains. We will have some interviews as well during the day. If any Barf'r comes by to say hello, we will give them a genuine barf salute, we cant afford any other freebies this time around, but you can pick up a shirt or hoodie. and will have a few sets of Flat Track bend J Murphy Vortex bars for sale.

Stop in and say hello at the Green Honda Passport with Blue Easyup.

Details on the Locatin and times of the Podcasts and how to get logging in to hear will come shortly.

On a Side note, I am in need of a Canon F2.8 70/200 zoom if anyone has one I can borrow or trade you for a Xlarge Flattrackers.com Hoodie and a $25 Coupon for any item on Flattrackers.com Store..
