Greetings,
The bike in question; 2006 Honda CB600F, ( a 599 Hornet)
The question: where can you find replacement stainless steel thingies (they clip onto the pads themselves) for the front pads, AND, are they really necessary ?

I've looked at the Ron Ayers and BikeBandit OEM Fische, but the part is not shown !

What are those things even for ? They fit between the pad and the piston and do not provide any retention for the pads, nor assist with allowing the pads to slide freely within the caliper (those two stainless steel parts are still in place)

anti-rattle clips? I know if you buy factory honda auto pads they come with them. I'll bet they come with OEM bike pads.

The other stainless steel part is the flat shim. It also comes with an OEM brake pad kit. I believe they're an anti-squeal and heat dissipation thing.

Yeah it's called a brake shim. They make it so your brakes don't squeak. Some brake pads have them, some don't. If you really want you can use universal stick on ones or use anti-squeal paste or grease and get the same results.

Aha....brake shims!
And EBC calls em anti rattle clips --- thank you!

"How They Work..... Brake shims prevent and reduce the transmission and amplitude of vibrational forces. This is achieved with dampening material bonded to the pad assembly. Shims also add mass to the brake that can dampen vibrations in the pad and caliper. Shims can act as a thermal barrier to ensure consistent temperatures across the pad, which gives consistent brake torque. High quality brake shims are multilayered with varying grades of dampening materials. Engineers tune these layers to get the best NVH qualities for that specific brake system. If the shim is not making contact with the brake pad, it will not do its job. - See more at: http://www.knowyourparts.com/technical-articles/brake-shim/#sthash.zRo4r8ZG.dpuf"
