Spartan Races

So I am doing one. It's 12 hours. I'm going to suffer, a lot. Fuck it.

Anyone done them? Really curious what gear everyone wears. Hope I got the right stuff..

Running shorts, running shoes, no shirt. That's it. Camelbak maybe but the ones I did had water stations set up so I didn't need it.

Doing the Beast?

Whichever one you do, that's awesome!! I've been wanting to do one.

Dress comfortably for all the conditions you’ll face. Some even wear Camelback for hydration. If you get Fox Sports channels, you can check out some of the races they show, and see what gear they wear. For me, I would wear Tri shorts and snug fitting compression/tech shirt. Trail shoes and compression socks.

Good luck!!

Never done one but have seen a lot of co-worker/friend feedback.

The basics seem like they must be pretty easy, but 12 hours tells me yours must be the more advanced. If it't the Beast my cube neighbor has done a couple and they can be quite a bit different. His horror story was an uphill course in hot weather that sounded pretty impressive. The other ones I've seen reports of were not so much. What bootsy said seems to be the standard fare and like Pete said, I'd expect water to be provided

A LOT of people are badly injured doing these. It's like a marathon, sure you can do it, but why?

I mean, good for you, but it's like a crash diet exercise accomplishment.

It can't be explained to the uninitiated.

PS: I'm running my 5th marathon Sunday. :thumbup

There is nothing to explain. I've spoken to many people who have done marathons and most of them stop running entirely after they finish one marathon. The idea that I can't fathom why people run marathons is a tad condescending.

So many people are constantly asking for money for marathons, tri-athlons, cycle rides etc, that it's not really unique or even impressive anymore. My out of shape overweight boss did a half marathon.

It's fine, if you're doing it for you, but science shows us it's not really "healthy" and it;s not that exciting watching someone run for 4 hours.

You're doing it again.

It was more rhetorical, but you're right, I did type that. But to imply there's no way I could understand...is wrong.

Some people, the real runners, run for themselves, and I don't see a billion postings about them, because they're not doing it for attention. 99% of the people I see posting about themselves doing marathons or halfs is for "look at me" attention.

every time ive done endurance exercise, how i feel during and especially towards the end is mostly determined by my food intake. the best examples i have are 100mi bike rides and hiking Mt Whitney. the more u eat and the more consistently u eat, the better u will feel.

Go for it man, I am routing for you. I tried playing full court basketball once and almost had a heart attack. Let us know how it goes and good luck out there, I wish I wanted to subject myself to that but I am a wimp.

Get good at burpees. Burpeess are the penalty for failing an obstacle/skill. The few obstacles I have tried are hard enough only moderately warmed up and taking my time. Sucking wind and in a hurry theyd be damn near impossible
