Spam/Ransom emails

So I was browsing my email spam folder, and noticed email with one of my old passwords in the header. Hmm. Well that doesn't sound good. It also was using one of my logins. Email went something like this "We know your password because we installed something or other at xvid (porn site), that compromised your camera, and also a keylogger. So we recorded you doing the nasty. Give us money, by way of bit coin, or we sent a tape to all your contact lists. Which we also compromised."

First tape, really? What is this 1990?
Second. Me being smart cookie. I thought Hmm. I have high standards, and only do my fapping to midget porn on high quality website PronHub. Also because I am paranoid, my camera is always taped over, and I run script blocking plugins and stuff. Not to mention I don't have a contact list on my laptop.

So now you might wonder: Well gee how the fuck did they get your old password. Great question! Remember all those data breaches like from linkedin? Yeah... Chances are your logins and old passwords are out there.

You can either download the data dump or enter in their search. Although if you do the latter I would change the password. Just in case.


Moral of the story? Don't re-use passwords, change them once in a while, enable 2 step authentication. Also password manager would be a good thing to use.

I got one recently too, only it didn't go to the spam folder.

the thing is it was also written "human like" with a real detail inside. But I ignored it because whatever, it was semi-public detail.
