Consider the maintenance work or fixes that YOU need to do to the bike, and factor that into the price. It is ok to pay more for a bike that has had all of the maintenance work done to it recently, or pay less and get a bike that needs some work, but you must know this in advance and be ok with it.
    • Inspecting the bike: if you are not experienced yourself, have a mechanic or an experienced friend check the bike before making a purchase. Crashed bikes:This is even more important if you are buying a bike that is being sold at a cheaper price with damages that the buyer is required to fix. In these cases, doing a frame check that will show any frame/fork/geometry damages is HIGHLY recommended. Do NOT simply rely on the information that the seller is providing, even he/she may not be aware of all the problems. Have the crashed bike checked and know what you are getting into.
    • Clean title, Salvage title A clean title doesn't mean the bike is free of serious issues. A Salvaged title doesn't mean the bike may have any problems. Every case is different. Some bikes are seriously damaged in a crash, but an insurance claim is never made on them, so they still have a clean title. Some bikes have had mostly cosmetic damages in a crash, but the insurance company decided to pay off the bike and salvage the title rather than spending the money to fix it. Know what you are getting into and don't make any assumptions based on what the seller is telling you.
    • Registration: Know about the current registration status of the bike. Check with DMV if you have any questions about any possible back fees and other title/registration questions (out of state title, no title with bill of sales only, etc.) before purchasing the bike.

Sadly, my time in California is coming to an end (at least for now). I'm going to move to Raleigh, NC for work and want to thin the herd before I go. I'm selling this bike, and my fiance's 2018 DR200SE.

The details:
I purchased this bike in 2011 from the original owner. He put about $9K in aftermarket goodies on it and decided it was too much of a beast for his skill level. His loss was my gain. This bike has been on quite a few adventures, including Baja. It is not a supermodel, and it has a lot of dings and scratches. That said, I think it's the prettiest bike I've ever owned.

The top end was rebuilt about 1200 miles ago. This was because I blew it up in Baja as a result of not using octane boost. The cylinder was re-machined by and re-plated, the head was re-machined, and two valves and valve guides were replaced. A new piston was sourced to perfectly match the bore (stock bore) This work was done by Millennium technologies. The re-assembly was done by two of my Baja buddies, and they did a heck of a job, as the bike was fantastic in Baja this year. I should point out that the motor has the upgraded rocker arms, since the older style were known to fail. No bottom end damage occurred, so nothing was done to the bottom end after the failure aside from measuring play, etc.

I can’t remember all of the modifications off the top of my head, but here is the list. I'll update it if/when I think of more goodies (seriously, this bike is so well set-up).

Rally Raid II Evo Kit - 950 Adventure headlight and cowl, bolt on front fuel tanks (2), fiberglass fairing to connect them, and all of the dash/supports required for a proper rally bike setup.

Rekluse clutch - This thing is absolutely amazing and makes the bike much easier to ride in the tight, technical stuff.

Full Akra exhaust - header and can. Euro mapping to match.

Additional fuel tank under the seat, bringing the total fuel capacity to just over 7 gallons (~ 300 miles real world range).

Upgraded forks (I believe the original owner said they were from a KTM 500 EXC, but I can't recall for sure. Regardless, they are sweet and have 300 mm of travel.

Tractive shock with 300 mm travel (look this thing up, it's AWESOME)
