I have already suffered through a earthquake, and am now preparing for a hurricane. WTF?

My timing kicks ass. Maybe it's Jesus, he never did like me. :(

Seriously, when the EQ happened, my girlfriend and I were like "what was that!!??" We thought people were stomping around on the roof. It didn't even occur to me that it could be an EQ, even though I have been through a bunch in Cali....:laughing

Holy shit. You moved to Raleigh?

I moved out here FROM Raleigh. I grew up in NC. Did my undergrad and grad at NCSU in Raleigh.

Where are you living?

You moved to the East Coast? When the hell did that happen? :wtf

Just got here last week! Girlfriend has to finish doctorate, and I needed a change. A big change.

Gotta say, I am fucking digging it so far. I am trying hard to find things to miss, but have been unable.

Had to sell my VFR though. But likely get a new bike this winter. It's going to be hard to find a used bike that has not been "stretched and lowered". Damn, these people will stretch and lower a fucking cow if it is standing in place too long!!

Yeah. I have to tell you that the last ten days I was there I was thinking "I gotta find time to go have that beer with Squidly". I really did.

But damn, it was utter kaos. Had to pack a damn pod, etc. etc. Bought a cheap minivan, so my girlfriend and our two cats drove 3,000 miles!! Made it in 3.5 days. Long drive.

I do regret that we didn't get to that beer!

EDIT: Living by Lake Johnson

Jim Bruer on Sirius is ranting about what an overblown bunch of hype it is. Screw it, go surfing.

I just don't want to be the guy on TV waiting on my roof for a helo!!:laughing

I got batteries, food, and plenty of ammo!

Cool. Living out by Lake Johnson is nice.

West of you towards Asheboro is a range of hills with some really nice riding. Go exploring. I think you take 64 west, then start exploring roads off of there. Get a map and look it over. Doing this from memory.

You will HAVE to swear allegiance to a local university. It's in the blood down there. I will not talk to you ever again if you become a Tarheel fan. You think I'm kidding, but I'm fucking serious.

Char-grill. Hamburger Steak Sandwich Senior and a chocolate milkshake.

I don't care what anyone says, Lexington style barbecue is the best. Eastern style is good; don't get me wrong. Being in Raleigh most everything will be Eastern style. If you can find a good Lexington style barbecue place check it out.

I think it's become over-the-top yuppie, but a million years ago when I was there Greenshields made some damn good beer. It's a brew pub in downtown Raleigh.

Let's see......Durham is just like Oakland; only smaller.

Harry's guitar shop in Raleigh is pretty good. He usually has a good selection of nice acoustics.

If you're near a Krispy Kreme and the Hot Doughnuts Now sign is on, go inside and get one. I know there were some Krispy Kreme's out here, but California just doesn't get it

Go Wolfpack!!!

My brother, living on the north side of Raleigh felt his entire house shake. I spent three years in Morrisville before moving to SJ. I was just there end of June - beginning of July visiting my brother, SIL, nephews & friends.

I moved here from Raleigh, too. But I didn't grow up there.

Also get used to the nutters clearing the groceries out of bread, milk and eggs when any type of storm is approaching. They never once appreciated my, "WTF?! Are you making a lot of French toast?" jokes.

Also, in NC, "BBQ" means pulled pork soaked in some sort of vinegar sauce, not 'food cooked on a grill'.

Enjoy NC! It's beautiful there, but too conservative for my taste. I also hate the "ABC Stores" being the only places to buy any alcohol other than beer and wine.

NC a hell of a state. (Granted I love the Chapel Hill / Carrborro area a lot more than Raleigh, but it's a great state nonetheless. I currently live in Davidson, about 25m north of Charlotte.) Anyway, find yourself a bike and get to western NC. You'll discover what CA has been missing.

Aw man, that's about the only thing I miss about the East Coast, warm hurricane surf. No wetsuit required.

Go get some.
