slipper clutch question

So here is my question. Since I use a electric shifter to shift my fj09, I was wondering if a slipper clutch would be easier on my transmission when I down shift. Up shifts are smooth, but when I down shift from 4th on down, sometimes it feels rough on the tranny. You are not supposed to use the clutch when shifting with the pingal electric shifter. Since the slipper helps when backing it in to a corner, I thought it might help. What do you think ?

I put them on every bike I own that doesn't have one already except for my dirt bikes. Your clutch maintenance will go up a bit, but I just love that smooth butter feel.

You certainly won't regret it.

worth it. Miss having one on my 300. If you ever mess up a revmatch bad enough on heavy braking it's a pucker moment lol

i dont notice a difference clutchless downshifting with or without a slipper. once the bike is in the lower gear, the slipper is much better/smoother. but they both still clunk if u do the downshift wrong. are you blipping or do u have an auto-blipper?

I am paralyzed and have to use the electric shifter. No auto blipper. I am just trying to get those lower gears to shifter a little easier on the down shift. If I ride just a little aggressive the down shifts just seem to be harsh, compared to what I remember. Just thought if the rear wheel slipped just a little,it would help. Not even sure if that's how a slipper clutch works. I remember renting ktms at stockton and backing them in the corner with no rear wheel chatter and smooth. I think they had slipper clutches in them.

if the gearbox is having trouble actually shifting into the lower gear, a slipper wont help much IMO. thats what i was talking about in my post. if you are just feeling rear wheel chatter, yes the slipper will help immensely.

ya, a slipper allows the rear wheel to spin faster than the gearbox/engine when there is back-torque from downshifting. the back-torque causes the clutch to disengage slightly, allowing it to slip. this causes the increase wear that everyone has brought up, since the clutch is slipping somewhat on most downshifts. the amount of slip is adjustable on most slipper clutches by adding/removing springs. in the case of the clutch on my R6, racers cut the majority of the springs to allow way more slip than stock.

even though u dont have an autoblipper, blipping manually goes a long way for a smooth downshift. not sure how u are riding or if its possible.

If you can't use the clutch and blip the throttle to match the revs when downshifting then a slipper clutch can certainly help smooth things out.

$500? Where are you getting one installed for that cheap!

The slipper for the R3 was well into $800, and we fumbled around on the driveway for 3-4 hours doing it after buying the clutch tool. The clutch cover and the actuation arm are such a pain in the ass.

On a fj09 forum. They are using the slipper out of the new xsr 900, minus the parts I can use out of my bike. Parts =$300. Labor =$200. I will find out what it costs soon I guess.
