Slicks on the dyno

Moto-fam, I'll be dropping my R6 trackbike off @ BRG tomorrow in order to establish some baseline runs. The bike has Pirelli Supercorsa slicks (SC-1 rear). I perused a few other bike sites and the general consensus is that as long as the operator is competent, the straps are properly tensioned and pressure is aired up to the high side I won't have to worry about the tire exploding from that Eddy Current double-drum setup KC has. :laughing All other tires I've visited a dyno my bikes have have DOT's.

No need to worry, right? :ride:teeth

Why would it explode? Race tires are higher quality than street tires, usually with stiffer carcasses and the ability to withstand more heat.

Why air the tire up to the high side? If anything I would lower the tp to allow for heat expansion. I witnessed a dyno tire explosion several years ago. It was on a Pontiac Trans-Am. High RPM, high load for too long built up too much heat and BLAM. It was on the L/R and nearly blew the quarter panel clean off the car. It looked like one of those exploded cigars you see in cartoons. If anyone had been standing nearby they most likely would have been killed.

It will be fine, the slick will cost you a a few HP on the dyno compared to a non slick.

I've never seen any tires explode in the dyno, but why waste your slick? I've definitely seen some shredding behind the drum.
