We just got our third revised health order - shelter in place and they have been getting more restrictive, one after another (Mendocino County). It states specifically that recreational motorcycling is off limits. Linky:

Only today, I have seldom had so many motorcycles riding by my place on Boonville Rd. Singles and groups with as many as ten bikes. Harleys riding by as I type this...

I guess they didn't get the memo.

It won't keep me from a short ride tomorrow, have to test new brakes, etc. I'll make up some essential function if asked.

Gnarly. I plan to ride from Ukiah to Cloverdale on 101, head out on 128 to Boonville and over 253 to home. An essential stop just might be Anderson Valley Brewing Company for a case of my favorite beer (if they are open, etc.).

My Givi Trekker 46 liter holds a case like it was made for it.

Just got back and it was glorious! Anderson Valley Brewing Company closed so came home with an empty trunk.

A personal observation data point. (Not to be confused with empirical data.) While I was expecting the Bundys of the world to utter 'fuck government orders', and they are, I'm seeing liberal and socialist-leaning UC Berkeley friends going out of their way to interpret how state and country SIP orders don't apply for their group/solo horse rides, bicycle rides, motorbike rides, long hikes, long dog walks, etc. Whether it's rednecks or the elite, like my best friend put it, 'service over self is a lost art'.

As of the time of this posting, over 583,000 known cases in the US, and 23,000 known deaths. Pushing 4% mortality rate. Go figure.

We have four cases reported of COVID-19 in Mendocino County and reports are that two of them have recovered completely. No deaths.

Our county “Public Health Officer” has issued three “Shelter In Place – SIP” edicts, each of them getting more stringent. On the last one issued April 10, stated: “All travel, including, but not limited to, travel on foot, bicycle, scooter, motorcycle, automobile, or public transit, except Essential Travel and Essential Activities as defined below in Section 9, is prohibited.” Under “Essential Businesses” is this statement: “Grocery stores, licensed farmers’ markets, farm and produce stands, supermarkets, food banks, convenience stores, including liquor stores that sell food…”

I complied to the letter and rode the FJR to an "Essential Business" as specifically stated in section 9. Nothing in the SIP edict restricts the length of travel to "Essential Businesses". The business was closed so I headed home. No contact with any other person during this.

And the weather was perfect.

Quite frankly, the numbers are NOT adding up. Check the numbers vs the regular flu, which killed 3X more folks 2 yrs ago then this. 40 million people in Kalifornia and approx 650 dead. AND look at the age/med pre-conditions of the people that have died.

I’m done.

Well we have a vaccine against the regular flu and don't do shelter in place precautions against its spread.

You're operating under the two false presumption that all points of view merit the same level of entertainment from another person. This is simply not reality. See the post directly under yours; those talking points have been dished out and promptly refuted with facts ad nauseum here, in numerous threads, and therefore simply does not warrant a thoughtful discussion. Likewise, we're 4 weeks into this pandemic and some people are following SIP protocol and some are not. I seriously doubt at this point a post on a motorcycle forum is going to change anyone's opinion, especially when there's a sticky advising people to not ride recreationally, as well as numerous BARFers in the medical field asking the same (and providing some really great info).

At the end of the day some people are gonna do whatever it is they wanna do. There's more than a handful who have admitted they have not been following SIP protocols, some for various reasons. Some in the form of attempting to rationalize their behavior, and others are almost bragging about it. People do what they're gonna do, but at this point, there's not much debate that needs to happen.

Yep. As exemplified above, the 'calibre', the level of education, of the people bragging to me about their circumvention of the official orders is making me rethink who's friend or foe.
