Shorai, what a great battery!

My gsxr1000 has not been ridden (or even looked at) since last August....yet it fired right up! Shorai is unbelievable. This particular battery is about 3 1/2 years old.....

I was impressed when my Husky 610 fired right up after a 7 month rest in the shed, also on a Shorai battery, but this one really surprised me.

Local company and great people!

Everyone should have one :)

I wish I had a similar experience. They are pretty amazing batteries, but mine wasn't able to start my drz 400 after about 2 months of not riding :dunno Either way it's still worth it for the weight savings and not having to worry about sulfation :thumbup

these are great batteries! I tell all my friends to get one as ive let a bike sit for almost a year and it fired right up and that particular bike has a hard time starting due to compression but it did just fine!

Yeah, the 60% or so price premium is definitely worth not having to deal with 50-year-old lead acid technology.

Just make sure you use a charger that is approved. The Shorai chargers will even check individual cells.

Do not use any charger that has a desulfate mode...or prepare for a nice bright lithium fire show...

Check your parasitic draw, mine toggles between 1mA-0mA about once a second on GSXR, and 0mA on the Husky.

The battery will be fine unless your clock or something is drawing current

I've had them in 3 bikes, fantastic batteries. Current one has been in the beat cbr600rr for over 2 years, living outside in SF, and stored under the house for several months at a time. Fires up everytime.

How much are they?

This battery could probably be useful to the OP of that other weekend warriors thread...

A buddy once said they run out of juice without any warning whatsoever. Meaning, you have a million perfect starts then out of the blue, boom, dead as a doornail.

Has anyone experienced that?

Lithium batteries have many advantages and a few disadvantages over lead/acid type batteries.

+ lighter (much lighter)

+ better shelf life/long term no load storage. (retains it's current storage)

+ higher cranking amps

---> other side of coin

- cost

- sensitive to parasitic draw current flow. Can drain the battery to fatal levels over time.

- (very) cold temp charging and (some) starting issues.
---Will NOT charge below freezing
---requires current draw (lights for example) to warm up the battery to deliver best cranking amps.

- long term (trickle) charging should "only" be done with a lithium specific charger.
--- it's OK to charge with a trickle charger but once fully charged (optimally about 95% charged) remove the (non-Li) charger. Li chargers monitor and remove charging current when cells are near full and can be left attached full time.

The most abusive thing to do to a Li battery is to drain it down then store it.
Always store with near full charge.

And yes.
When they reach EOL (end of life) they do lose there capacity quickly.
Proper charging optimizes the life of the Li battery.

the voltage/state of charge curve is very flat....that's not a bad thing...

Shorai is unbelievable alright.

Bought one and it never worked right. They gave me another. It sat in my bike for a few months and was dead. They gave me one of their chargers and now it doesn't work either. I don't think Shorai will be around much longer.

Oh well, live and learn.

I wonder what was wrong, have you measured the parasitic drain of your bike?

They gave you a battery, a charger....

That was back when they were first introduced.
The price has come down considerably over the past few years.

The battery for my Super Duke (LFX19A4-BS12) is $166 on Amazon, where the lead acid equivalent (Yuasa YTZ14S) is listed for $146. Not a bad deal at all.

Too much lean angle...
You're saying that for durability, like in my WR's bright-ass headlight's parasitic draw at sleep, I do not want this?
