shock preload tool

Anyone got the tools to help me add a quarter inch preload to my Wilbers rear shock? My Wilbers rear shock does not come with a remote preload adjuster. The shock is off the bike. The two rings won't budge with the spanner wrench supplied with the Wilbers shock.

Hammer and a punch? ...It's not pretty but it's the traditional way. It's obviously easier if the shock is fixed to something like the bike of a vise.

Thanks for the reply, Rick,
The rings are loosened. It takes two spanner wrenches, one for each ring and turn them in opposing direction. You're right. It just takes a little good old fashion brute force plus some WD40. Of course knowing which direction to turn is cruical to the success. Youtube is handy that way. I was wondering if adding a quarter inch to the static sag really worth the trouble or if I should just ride without my panniers. I will find out soon enough. The new Wilbers shocks is not noticeable on the slab. It is quite noticeable in the twisties.
Thanks,
hank

You can use dryer hose clamps to compress the spring then adjust it by hand. I use three clamps with a cordless impact and 1/4 inch bit. You can do it on or off the bike.
