The Service Writer is responsible for identifying and documenting service, maintenance, and repair needs for customers, as well as estimating costs and handling warranty issues.
Scope:
The Service Writer is responsible for identifying and documenting service, maintenance, and repair needs for customers, as well as estimating costs and handling warranty issues.
Duties:
Initiate work orders and quotes
Order and receive parts
Close work orders in an accurate and timely manner
Process invoices according to customer terms
Schedule and prioritize work for optimal performance with mechanics
Professional interaction with internal and external customers
Verifies warranty and service contract coverage by examining records, telemetry, and previous service; explains provisions and exclusions to customer
Maintains customer rapport by explaining estimates and expected return of vehicle; obtains customer's approval of estimates;
Arranges pickup or towing and loaner vehicle if appropriate
Updates job knowledge regularly; participates in skills seminars, keeps up on manufacturers' and trade publications
Planning inventory requirements
Preliminary problem troubleshooting
Performs road test of customer vehicles
Calculates company cost of replacement parts and labor to repair vehicle
Estimates customer charges for mechanical, electrical, or other vehicle repairs
Enters itemized estimate on service order and explains estimate to customer.
Schedules appointments with customer
Follows/enforces safety policies
Job Requirements
2 – 3 years of automotive/motorcycle service writer experience
AS/BS college degree or equivalent
Strong customer service skills
Positive working attitude in a team environment
Mathematical/numerical aptitude
Highly organized and detailed oriented
Ability to multi-task
Basic computer skills
Experience with systems such as SalesForce and Service Parts Databases
Current valid driver’s license, M2 endorsement or willingness to obtain endorsement
ASE Certification a plus
