Self-Canceling Turn Signals

Any particular reason this feature tends to only be found on cruisers and touring bikes?

....just curious :confused

My Seca 550 had them back in the day and both my BMW's had/have them.

I really like them.

Another feature on my BMW's I think all bikes should have are emergency flashers. :thumbup

I've had hazard lights on my FZ6 & FZ-09.... just no self canceling signals since my trusty 'ol V-Star.

I know they've been around forever, just don't seem to find them on most modern Japanese sport bikes.

My bike has them. I think it's a nice feature to have. It does add some weight and cost to the bike. You also want to hide it. The rd 400 had them in the 70's.

Yamaha put them on the RZ-350 way back in 1984. You would think after 30 years all bikes could have them. That feature couldn't possibly cost much for the factories to add.

My 1979 Yamaha Daytona Special had them as standard equipment. :x

Neat little mercury switch. :teeth

Probably the reason they stopped using them, too. :laughing

My sport-touring BMW has them, it's tied into the ABS system (go 1/4 mile & they shut off), if you haven't finished your turn/lane-change in that distance, you've forgotten what you were doing...

More than that, I'd like to have real cruise control (not a throttle lock) and a gear position indicator.

My cousin was telling me about how he thinks his '83 KZ750 had self-cancelling turn signals, and I was like, "Bullshit. That shit's just broken if it turns itself off."

Turns out, his bike DOES have self-cancelling signals, and a pretty simple system at that; it turns off after a particular number of crank revolution.

Learn something new every day...

Be nifty if I bought a bike that had them but not really interested in seeking out a way to put them on my bike that doesn't have it already.

Same deal as gear indicators for me.

I've ridden 75 miles before with my turnsignal on. Very dim flashing light on the dash. I generally don't use my turn signals any more, if I'm riding with someone, or changing lanes or something on the freeway, I use hand signals.

I think it's fairly standard across all BMW models (the S1000RR has 'em).

I just figured there must be some reason Japanese manufacturers don't (or no longer) include them on sportbikes... just their Tourers and Cruisers.

I guess not :dunno

My BMW has them but I don't find them that useful. When you're moving, they turn off after 10 seconds or a certain distance, calculated by the ABS system. Both measurements, time and distance, are about twice as long as they need to be. I'm used to cancelling manually. I guess it's nice that it will cancel for me if I forget, but I don't forget that often.
