Segway mini vs. One S1 (unicycle)

Not Erudite, just er
In downtown Austin last week there was a kid (teenager/20something?) ripping down the sidewalk on one of the Ninebots. He could turn that thing like it was on a track and stop on a dime: he had to suddenly stop and jog 90deg to avoid a car that he jumped in front of.

I'm liking the OneWheel: I still occasionally ride my Tierney 2-wheeled board, but that's all about downhill commitment. It would be fun to have something like this to cruise the ring road at Sears during AFM events.

I have a Ninebot One.

Pretty steep learning curve, but a hell of a lot of fun once you learn. I've even had no problems with it off-road, besides pissed off hikers.

Don't get it if you don't enjoy attention.

I already ride an electric bicycle with fat tires...I'm finding as the Segways come out I'm fortunately getting less attention.

That was my impression, the Uni-wheel is "better" once you learn it but the Segway is more friendly to everyone.

There's a pretty steep learning curve on the self balancing unicycles. I got a pretty nasty gash on my shin from when I came off of it, it spun around and came back at me.

I've ridden the One Wheel and it's fucking rad.

Can you post a little about what it's like to use? What do you use it for?

We're hitting an age where if you live 1-3 miles from somewhere there won't be an excuse not to "walk" it with your device.

I prefer the unicycle because of its low profile. Can fit in small spaces, wheel big enough to go off road, and can easily be taken with you in trunk/public transit/etc

I've ridden the full size segway and there's only one man who's ever looked cool on it...

My dad crashed his when they gave us 10 min "free play"...bad idea.

Sometimes I explore new parks and areas with my wife, who also rides a unicycle (and motorcycle, actually).

In the summer I use it to commute to work - it's about 7 miles each way. An electric bicycle would probably be more practical but hey I ride a Diavel...

Awesome thanks.

I like the eBike because I use it for all sorts of errands but for pure commuting to Caltrain the wheel makes more sense but I'd get ZERO exercise on it vs. the small amount on the eBike.
