Never found one that works.....they feel good for the first 10 minutes but then the next time you wake up it feels like your head is resting on a brick.
I have one, doesn't help much. What's important is your head position on the pillow. If you sleep on your side, it should be firm enough that it keeps your head spine straight when you are on your side. Or, if you are a back sleeper, it should support your neck so that it doesn't strain your neck, and so on and so forth.
My memory foam pillow was thrown in when I bought our mattress a few years ago at sleeptrain. It was a harder on here. Can't remember the name. It's been awesome. It has some cool gel on one side if you run hot. They let my wife pick her own also. They would have been expensive if we had to pay for them. I'd think it varies per individual. But I like mine a lot. It also has held its shape over the years
I've had a tempurpedic pillow and I honestly prefer a medium firm down or down alternative pillow. The memory foam pillow didn't conform enough or something. I always had a sore neck.
Spring mattresses are better too. I'm convinced these things are just way cheaper to produce and they sold the public on them being "better". Most people get sucked into the marketing so bad they don't even realize what's truly more comfortable anymore.
I just dropped about 7 bills on a new Sealy Temperpedic mattress from Sears yesterday. They had one of their sample pillows and I thought it felt quite nice. Was wondering if it was worth dropping the extra dime for the pillow. Saw this on Amazon and Im wondering if I should just pick it up... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006JQ48J...lid=2CI263SUGL3U3&coliid=I1O35CN6ESIVFF&psc=1
worked in polyurethane R&D for a while. Wouldn't cheap out on one if you decided to go with memory foam. Isocyanates are nasty and you want to make sure they are fully cured and made with quality materials and good QC. Wouldn't go for an ebay special here.
I've been down this road... I switched from a spring mattress to a memory foam mattress about 5 or 6 months ago and my body now sinks more so the old pillow didn't provide enough support.
I bought and returned various memory foam neck pillows including the expensive tempurpedic ones and also tried the ones you can find on amazon and at Costco.
Couldn't find one that works since I'm a side sleeper. I decided to get rid of the neck pillow entirely and use one of tempurpedics 'regular' shaped pillow for now. So far I've gotten used to it.
The issue I was running in to with the memory foam neck pillows was that as your head warms up the pillow, it softens. As a side sleeper, your head eventually sinks too far in to the support curve and wake up with a nasty kink.
Thanks for the feedback. Getting my new mattress delivered this Thursday. Hopefully that'll resolve my sleeping ills for the time being.
Over the past few days, I realized my current mattress is way too hard for my older body now that I wake up in the mornings with sore and sleepy shoulders.
