Possible I may need to move to cold weather.
Upstate NY Jan.

Don't know yet but preperation is vital a month out for me.

What don't I know?
What do I take For Granted That I'll not have?

What takes longer?

What the shit is this...
Layering up and down is going to be a challenge, obviously. I imagine there are solutions developed for people with your mobility status. Everything will take longer. How are you for regulating body temperature currently? Where in upstate NY are you moving?

Lived in Saratoga Springs for a while. Coldest I ever saw was -34, about half the our of state cars didn’t start at least once that winter.

Also, rust is a very real thing if you’re there more than one winter.

Syracuse (if it happens).

I'm sure that I'll ship the truck.

I always feel cold but apparently it has nothing to do with the temperature. I guess I'll finally look underdressed.

It is going to be dark when you get up and dark when you leave work.

Travel/commuting will take longer. You’ll find out what a block heater and remote starters are.

Your skin will dry out.

Pretty snowfall turns to grey piles quickly.

You’ll get to feel your nose hairs freeze if it gets cold enough.

I’ve lived in a place where the clouds are ever present in the winter. SADS and vitamin d deficiency is no joke.

Heating is expensive.

The only 3 places I would and do live in have a long winter season. It isn’t for everyone.

The only thing I liked about New Mexico winters was chopping wood and heating the double wide with a wood stove. Cleaning the chimney was a bitch though. The only other up side is watching sport ball guilt free because the weather sucks to hard to do anything outside in anyway. Snow is only fun when you have no place you need to be.

I have visited cold county MN. Had to go MN several time a year for meetings. I do not have the words for 40 below 0. You do not touch things without gloves. Hurts it is so cold.

Everything is build different for the cold. I took a tour of Hormel's plant in July. Walking though a refrigerated loading dock I noticed steam heaters over the truck loading doors. Asked why they would put heaters in a refrigerated area? Was told you are not from around here are you. The heaters were to keep it refrigerated and not frozen in the winter :wtf So cold the fresh meat would freeze if exposed to the outside air.

Good luck with the move :twofinger Let us know how it goes.

Dont let your fuel tank get below half full. Mostly so you can stay warm when your car slides into a ditch and nobody comes looking for you for a while.

Keep your exaust dug out so the C0 doesn't find its way back in your vehicle while you're waiting.

Keep cold weather gear in your vehicle & water.

Try not to drive like an ass i think is the biggest advice, even in climates that are mild. Probably the most dangerous thing we do day to day.

4wd doesn't help you stop.

extra battery on your chair for heated gear.
Make sure maintenance on vehicles is done cus getting stuck in the snow can be deadly.
be prepared for loss of power, phone, water etc.
getting to from vehicle in sub zero conditions.
being stuck indoors at home for weeks at a time no one can get to you and you can't get to no one.

no I haven't lived in such climes, but I've heard the stories of those that have which is why I won't

heated gear?

my aurthurites forbids me from going to such cold places.
just do not get stuck outside. tire warmers?

just never let the cold air touch the skin. it can freeze, and when you get cold. it will take time to warm up.
keep the cellphone charged up. (spare batt for it?).

preheat your truck, get a block warmer to keep the motor alive.

Well if you've got your mind made up:

-Stay off the ice roads June to August
-Don't lick the light poles
-Get a pet St Bernard with a whisky bottle collar
-Don't bother buying a shovel, there'll just be more snow to replace any you remove.
-forget the truck, bring a snowmobile
-don't pet the polar bears
-the cold makes you sleepy but don't sleep, you won't wake up.
-if you see this guy you've gone too far north.
