I'm curious who on hear builds models, I know there are a few. Lets hear and see what you build.

I build mostly MotorGP, F1 and sportscars. I have been unemployed since October and have finished two, almost three Tamiya bikes.

2004 Yamaha YZR M1

2005 Pramac Ducati GP4

1965 Honda RC166

Lol, I used to be a scale-model building fiend when I lived in SF. Entered a few contests back in the day too. Maybe I should learn to use my Pasche double-action airbrush... :p

Yeah, I have the fever again. I built tons of kits from my teens until my late twenties, then work and life got in the way. I did contests and shows, I got burned out on contests. I got tired of the politics, cliques and BS. The Yamaha was the first kit I completed in about 15 years. There are lots of things I would do different and better but thats the fun.

I use an ancient Paasche VL double-action airbrush. It still works great and fortunately I can still paint.

Next on the work bench are two 05' YRZ M1s. One in the US 50th anniversary colors from Laguna Seca (yellow and black) and the other in the Valencia 50th colors (white and red). Also going to super detail the Valencia bike using a Top Studio detail kit.

Hooli, I guess its has been awhile since you have built a kit. The decals in newer Tamiya kits go on very easily, just need setting solution and patients. The only decal I had a problem on was the white background on the front of the fairing. It took a little while to get it to conform to the front, the decal has a slit in it to help it conform. The nice thing is the number helps cover where the background overlaps itself.

Thanks for the compliments!

A little update on the RC166. I built up the after market chain for it. Once the chain is built it looks like a real chain and is moveable like a real chain. It was pretty easy to build but took about 4 hours and was very fiddly. Joining the two ends was the worst part it took four tries and about a 1/2 hour to add the master link. The chain is 1/12 scale and about 2 inches long.

Now I need to take the Cc166 apart and install the chain. I'm not really looking forward to this because it took four hands to hold all the parts together the first time. Now with the chain, it is one more part that I need to hold.

There was a thread with links to the Japanese co. that made aftermarket bits like this, for 1/12 scale MC models. It was unreal. Can you post it up?

Make sure you install new sprockets with the new chain. A clip master is okay for track bike, but some others don't like them.

More than one company makes chains Top Studio, Model Factory Hiro and Hobby Design. The chain for the RC166 is a detail part from Tamiya made specifically for the kit. The place I get most of my detail stuff from is Strada Sports. I also get a few things like color matched paint for specific paint schemes from Hiroboy in the UK. If your looking for parts browse the two sites.

Here are a few more with the detail parts chain installed. I was a little worried about installing the chain. I had to disassemble the rear of the bike rear wheel, shocks, exhaust and swing arm to add the chain. It actually went together easily. The chain sits a little funny because the sprockets are a little narrow but still looks better than the plastic kit part.
