santa clara cycle accessories= NEVER AGAIN!!

reckon

the cake is a lie
I don't like posting negative shit, but this has just gotten ridiculous.

a few years back I go to SCCA (they are 2 miles from my house) and get a couple of tires for 2 different bikes: bring in the wheels, buy the tires, they install, and I pick them up in a few hours,....I remember they installed one of the tires backwards,.....and fixed it once I brought it to their attention,...no big deal,...it happens.

NOW after getting another tire for my yamaha vision at SCCA about a year ago, I take in just the wheel, came back a few hours later and they screwed up the install AGAIN it was backwards, so I take it back, they "fix" it,.... :|

now I probably SHOULD have double checked it, but I figured if they screwed it up the first time, NO WAY they would get it backwards TWICE. (or is that 3 times now)

I have several of these bikes (yes, I know, psych treatments are continuing) so I just stuck the wheel/new tire in the shed, and waited for the current one to get the flat spot (I ride mostly freeway=commuting), then switch em out, and go get a new tire on the other wheel,...so I go to install it just now and, I did a John MacEnroe "you CANNOT be SERIOUS"!!" :wtf yup, still backwards.
(they probably never did ANYTHING? or they put it on backwards TWICE?) :wtf

cept now it's been a year, the receipt is long gone, and to be honest, after reading MANY posts here about the EXACT SAME ISSUE with SCCA,...I wont be going back ever again.

is it because it's a shaft drive? do you need to put little arrow stickers on the wheels? do you need to stand there and WATCH them?

this is just ridiculous

now to figure out how to switch this around without paying $30 MORE.

ok venting session over, I feel better, save the flat spotted rear tire I now have to ride around on.

Why not swap them over yourself and then bring them in to them for a bead & balance? Guaranteed it's on the right way.

when i used to take my tires in for a change, i would always draw the direction of rotation on one of the rotors or rims with a sharpie or chalk.

It might be worth it to pop off the old weights as well. As some shops don't even bother removing the old weights, and will rebalance with them on.

call me nuts, but i've never trusted anyone with my tires.

sucks, but this sounds like a systemic problem, not an individual one. I'm guessing that the wheels to the vision are a little "different" than most and common logic/rules don't apply when visually checking the wheels to determine direction of travel.

following karbon's advice would alleviate this issue.

Well.... master surgeons take a Sharpie pen and write:

"THE OTHER LEG, STUPID"

On the leg that is NOT supposed to be cut off because of so many cases where where amputations resulted in wrong one being cut off.........:rofl

eh, no one's perfect. I've go there for most of my moto needs and have never had a problem, I still highly recommend them for parts and service.:)

I've been going to them off and on since the early '80s back when they were Santa Clara Cycle Salvage , and I've *never* at any time had an issue.

But then I always check wheels/tires when i pick them up to make sure they're mounted properly. And I certainly wouldn't wait as long as you did to say something if an issue developed , they're one of the *most* reliable shops in the Bay Area. To the point that if I can't find tires up here I may well drive the 200 plus miles down there ,even though by the time I pay the fuel costs the expense would be a wash.

Bottom line is that they're really good guys , did you make the attempt to take this issue to them and get it resolved prior to posting this thread?

never had an issue with doug and the fellas there. if a mistake is made, they'll bend over backwards to make it right. Joe, sorry, your experience there isn't the same as mine.

Sorry for your negative experience. SCCA mounts tyres on my black anodized Akront wheels for my Harley and the PM spun wheels for my CBR1100XX without scratching them. Another friend has them mount tyres on his CF wheels with no issues. Great tyre prices, free mounting and balancing along with good service.

I had a bad experience at SCC. Ive got a nice poseur bike ..aprilia with red rims. it came back with a chip in front rim and scratch on rear and both tires inflated to I believe around 45 psi.

my fault for not bringing my tire guage with me ....

I had one person i know have both his tires way over inflated and crashed on a corner as he went straightaway on a ride after leaving scc.

but then again ive had bad experiences at other places too now..... I wont go into details on the other place as I know a flame war would erupt as lots of people like em..... suffice to say 70 psi on one tire and 50 on the other is a bit high.....in addition to tire put on backwards..... but again this other experience was not scc.

Was said rider warned about how fresh tires are slippery? :confused :nerd

OP: I've been taking my wheels there for quite awhile now and never had a problem. As a matter of fact, the front wheel of my streetbike goes down there next weekend for a fresh BT016. Sounds like you should double-check to prevent potential future heartaches.

Reckon, do your own tire changes for ftw!

based on the threads of your expertise in mechanics, paint and plastic repair, you're best off doing your own tire changes. Seriously, mount and ballancing takes less than 1/3 of the skill required of paint, prep. And plastic repair.

allow me to whore up my old thread on tire changes.
