Any other transplants/retreads? I'm from SBCO, was in SFBA for 21 years, now back in North County. Just got my bike legal again this week after three years.

I'm sure I'll eventually remember how to ride/turn again :) Who else is here, especially Lompton/Santa Ynez Valley/Santa Maria, etc.

I'm the opposite, Bay area then SLO for 5 years and SB for 5 years. Now back in the Bay Have family in Lompoc (not the prison) and San Ynez, too!

Give me an excuse to go back and visit and ride!

Hey, I lived in S.B. for over 15-years! Recently moved back to S.F. Bay Area about 8-yrs ago.

I'm too old for Tech now, or I'd come back up now that my Family Situation (the main reason I came "home") has changed again. Damned GoogleBike kids won't hire me. (used to have to dodge those daily in the heart of the 'Plex off Shoreline.. nary a helmet seen. Always wondered how many TBIs resulted).

Not sure if it counts, but

I was born in Carpentaria, one pair of my 5th great grands are Chumash Indian from the Rincon point area, who were baptized at the Santa Barbara Mission, and the rest of the family emigrated to SB in the early 1600s from Spain via Sinaloa Mexico.
Still have family in Ventura, and SB.
Here is some of the family, horsing around at the Ruiz hacienda just after the invention of photography.

My time in SBCO was in Vandenberg Village early 60's
"Duck & cover" didn't seem like I was saving myself at all.
Lompoc was "going to town"

"Great balls o' fire" something to see from the street.

I used to live in Goleta and worked in downtown SB a few years ago.

Didn't have my bike with me at the time. :(

My daughter just moved back to the Bay area after graduating at UCSB, it was sad for her to leave after 4 years and all of the memories. Very nice place, but a little too much of a resort town feel for my tastes for long term.

I remember you telling stories about your daughter at UCSB!

Downtown and Isla Vista are a little nuts. :laughing Downtown because tourism and Isla Vista, because college proximity.

I remember one time right when I moved there and didn't know anything, I googled a pizza joint. I didn't realize what IV was. It was a Friday night. I got down there and was like holy hell, what did I get myself into!? Get me outta here!

Goleta was a nice town. Much more relaxed and far from that resort town feel.

Heh, heh... many people blame oil-rigs off coast of Goleta for tar on beachs. Got cause & effect got mixed up. Seepage from oil fields came first and was what lead Venoco to discover oil and install drill-rigs.

Worse tar at beaches just north of UCSB. Sharks too.

And smog from those seeps too, I think? i do know.. running on the beach at UCSB sometime in 81-84 (those brain cells are .. disconnected) I felt like I was running in LA. It might have come up the coast from LA. Felt like getting punched in the upper chest.

We kids had a can of.. mineral spirits(?) we used to de-tar after every beach trip.

But then again.. GOO

GAUCHOS! I decided to go to UCSB without ever visiting the school. I was super happy with that decision from the moment I arrived. Met the coolest and smartest people.

Like everyone's college experience you remember it vividly but know you can never really go back.. maybe just drive through. Just thinking about it makes me miss it a lot :afm199

Best of luck to your daughter :thumbup
