San Francisco Parking

Hey everyone!

New to the area and have a few questions that I wasn't able to resolve using the "search" function on BARF.

Are there any resources for motorcycle parking in SF? Specifically in the Financial District where I will be commuting to a couple of times a week.

I'd like to know if there is any free parking options in the area or in SF in general. If not, what are tips and tricks for parking a bike?

Thanks in advance!

I work in SF. You don't want street parking, cars might knock over your bike, etc. Many of my coworkers risk the ticket, so and go weeks between citations so perhaps you can make it work. Nobody has been towed and only one bike hit by car. So yaay? I pay for off street parking. $300/monthly which I split with coworker.

I work at Beale and Mission and there is some bike parking on Beale, a bunch on Mission and a bunch more on Main. When the weather gets nice, the spots I can see on Beale and Mission get filled around 10:00 or so, but I'm there before 7:00 and it's always wide-open.

I use the paybyphone app and it's $6.75 for nine hours. If I'm there before 7:00, the spot is still paid for until 4:00, and I can add minutes or hours if the day runs past my normal exit.

Off-street would be better, but this works.

Couple of questions:

1) Are these parking spots specific to motorcycles?

2) My work schedule is starting around 7 AM until 4-ish PM, what do you mean by spots being paid until 4 pm? How can I identify these spots?

Thanks Massio!

So let me make sure I understand this map correctly.

The black spots/labels on the map indicate that the parking spot is unmetered.

Looking on the map, Kaplan Lane (tiny street) is indicated in black, but looking at the Google Street View link I am seeing a motorcycle lot with a Pay booth.

Is it safe to assume that there are free spots as well, or the map is not entirely updated?

Curbninja - anyone finding it useful?

The curbninja app was brought up on a different thread. I haven't yet used it as parking is plentiful in suburbia and I am rarely in the city, but it might be something worth looking into.

Many factors to consider here. Especially location and the type of bike you have. And how lucky you are.I have gone years without a ticket or a knock over, then got two of each in a month.. I had my KlR knocked over a few ti m.j e and damage was minimal. But twice on my VFR pretty much ruined my fairings.

Keep in mind too, that a lot of free moto parking is limited to two hours before you have to move it. A metered space goes for $00.40 -$00.75 per hour with a 10 hour limit..
Like so many things in life, and especially in motorcycling, it all comes down to a risk/benefit equation.

MEssed around with this app today and looked at the spots in Google Maps. Seems pretty good. Will test it out on Monday!

Yeah, you can see them painted perpendicular to the traffic flow on google maps street view. The only issue I've seen so far over the last year was on Mission where a tree branch fell on some bikes. Bad luck for them that day.

If you park at 6:30 (for example)and plug in nine hours, it expires at 4:00. If you get in at 7:30, nine hours gets you until 4:30.

If you need more time, the app lets you add more, but I'd try to do it ten minutes before it expiries. There seems to be a delay from when you pay via the app and when the expired marker drops. I'm not sure what the max time available is.

I work at Levi's Plaza (not Financial District) and in a 2 block radius metered motorcycle spots range from 0.60 to 0.90 from 9am until 6pm so I suggest you look around because I couldn't find any reasoning as to why on why side of the street is much cheaper than the other...

Ask me about my B-1-D
meters controlled by "Port of Sf" are at a much higher rate than those owned by dpt, sf city and county
